A mushroom walks into a restaurant. The host says to it, "We do not serve mushrooms!" The mushroom replies back, "What, I'm a FUN GUY." OK, bad joke. For What'd You See Wednesday, we saw some cool mushrooms. Appears one was eaten and the other survived. With damp conditions, they have been emerging. They are important for recycling organic material and providing food for wildlife. Post what you are seeing on the trails.

What’d You See Wednesday! We saw a bright and beautiful moon. Each month we paddle under the Full Moon. We heard a barred owl, the splashes from a beaver pounding his tail on the water, and watched hundreds of pelicans. Sign up for next month’s paddle. What’d You See this week?

What’d You See Wednesday? We saw an armadillo feasting on an early Thanksgiving meal. Frog legs are what’s for dinner. Most of their diet consists of plants, insects, and larvae. Every once in a while it takes more to satisfy.

Reminder, the Nature Center will be closed on Thanksgiving. Enjoy your time with your family. We resume normal operating hours on Friday November 29th.

What'd You See Wednesday? We saw this tiny mammal near the gatehouse trying to get through without paying the admission fee. Shrews are a member of the Soricidae family and are not rodents. Unlike rodents, their teeth wear down over time. Shrews are insectivores and hide under leaf litter across the Refuge to get through the colder months. Maybe you can find one surfacing from some leaves. Post what you have seen on the trails.

What'd You See Wednesday? Early this morning we saw some beautiful formations at the base of Frostweed plants. When temperatures dip below freezing, the moisture that breaks through the stem tissue is cooled and forms icy displays. I hope you get to enjoy each unique frosty exhibit as you hike on the trails.
