On behalf of the Fort Worth Public Library Association, Mrs. D. B. (Adelphine) Keeler wrote philanthropist Andrew Carnegie asking for funds to build a library building. He replied on June 30, 1899, informing Adelphine that he would provide $50,000 to build the library, contingent upon the City of Fort Worth providing the site, the collection of books and furnishings, and the staff. The Carnegie Library of Fort Worth was one of 1,681 that were funded through the generosity of Mr. Carnegie.
