Park staff attempted to mow the grounds at one of our Fort Worth Parks but was instead met with an unsightly amount of trash and several broken glass bottles left behind earlier by a large group get-together. Even more upsetting is the fact that several trash cans were only a few steps away. It’s truly sad when all our litter efforts are thwarted by selfish people. It takes all of us to help ensure our public spaces are clean.
If you and your family or friends decide to venture outdoors, remember to be respectful and properly dispose of your trash. #StompOutLitter #RespectOurParks #PutTrashInTheCan

Keep our avian friends healthy and don't feed them bread. Learn more from NCTCOG Environment & Development #KeepWildlifeWild

When young birds become malnourished, as a result from eating bread, they can develop a deformity called “angel wing,” a condition which causes the bones in the wing to bow out. This deformity makes flight impossible for these birds.

We L💟VE this stellar hallway makeover! Shouts out to the The Welman Project for helping our Fort Worth ISD teachers be amazing. https://loom.ly/ehvE5sw

Today we are celebrating the rock STARS of forward-to-school - the secretaries, office managers and support staff. These gatekeepers to the classroom are educators, mentors, artists and the heart of every campus. They are “the force” that keeps the spaceship flying. Take Ms Wiesner of Bruce Shulkey Elementary in Fort Worth ISD, who transformed the school’s main entrance into an intergalactic wonderland. Made completely from reuse materials, she’s bringing Star Wars to life, ready for blast off when students return. And yes, it lights up. #starwars #schooltheme #maytheforcebewithyou #officemanager #gatekeeper #educator #creativereuse #hallwaydecor #inagalaxyfarfaraway #gadgetsandgizmos #thewelmanproject #foundatwelman #bruceshulkeyelementary #fwisd #fortworth

What contamination items did you see in last Friday's post? If you said Trash Bags, you're absolutely correct! Often times, residents try to be helpful and bag their recyclables to keep them contained. However, trash bags, grocery bags and other tanglers can get caught in the equipment causing major delays. So remember, keep recyclables loose and don't bag them. If you have too many items to properly fit in your recycling cart, consider taking them to a Drop-Off Station.

Mosquito Season Continues
Protecting ourselves from mosquito diseases takes all of us to working together. Neighbors working with neighbors is the one of the best solutions. If you have a neighbor who needs assistance, you can help them with mosquito prevention. Look for and remove standing water in their yard. Keep tall grass mowed in your neighborhood to prevent mosquito breeding sites. In Fort Worth we always lend a helping hand. A quick reminder: the city of Fort Worth only sprays for mosquitoes when there is scientific evidence of West Nile Virus – or any other mosquito disease – in a specific area. #MosquitoPreventionMatters

Great job to the Fort Worth Museum of Science and History and the awesome historical review of Earth Day! Hey Fort Worth, do your part in celebrating the 50th Earth Day today and everyday, at home, on the go & at work! #knowwhattothrow and recycle right!
Tomorrow is EARTH DAY! To help alleviate boredom and to accomplish something that will help our planet and the environment, even a little, I suggest picking up litter in your neighborhood or unclogging and cleaning a storm water inlet. The one pictured is across from a duck pond and the debris was from recent flooding. It only took a few minutes to clean and will help keep runoff flowing into the river a bit faster and cleaner. Wear gloves and wash hands with soap afterwards. :)
Local resident, Jenn and her two sons picked up litter today at an elementary school. She's teaching them correctly. A pity the kids on Spring Break didn't care to leave the beach litter free. We need more mothers like Jenn. :)
