Sherman, Texas – The Department of Public Safety (DPS) is seeking the public’s assistance in identifying the driver of a Toyota Corolla that fled after it was involved in a fatal crash on July 22, 2026, at approximately 2:51 p.m. at the intersection of US-82 and Smith Oak Rd in unincorporated Grayson County.

A preliminary investigation indicates that a motorcycle was traveling eastbound on US-82 when the driver of the Toyota Corolla failed to yield the right of way to the motorcycle.

The motorcycle operator was transported to the Texoma Medical Center, where he succumbed to his injuries. The passenger was transported to the Texoma Medical Center with serious injuries.

The North Texas Crime Stoppers is offering up to $5,000 for information leading to the arrest and indictment of the driver of the Toyota Corolla.

🚨 Traffic Stop Safety Reminder

When you see emergency lights behind you, pull to the right and stop on the improved shoulder or as far off the roadway as safely possible.

❌ Never pull to the left or stop in the median.

Texas law requires drivers to yield the right-of-way to an emergency vehicle and move to the right-hand edge of the roadway and stop when approaching from behind. Texas Transportation Code §545.156.

A New Chapter Begins for the Texas Rangers Division.

The Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) is proud to announce Jason Bobo as the new Chief of the Texas Rangers Division (TRD), succeeding former Chief Scotty Shiver, effective Sept. 1. 2026. Jason Bobo brings more than two decades of investigative and law enforcement experience to this new role, including more than 15 years as a Texas Ranger.

He succeeds Chief Scotty Shiver, who is retiring after 31 years of dedicated service to the DPS. During his career, he served in numerous leadership roles before becoming Chief of the Texas Rangers in 2024.

Ranger Major Kip Westmoreland will now become Ranger Assistant Chief. Westmoreland most recently served as Major in DPS’ Southeast Texas Region.

Please congratulate Chief Bobo and Assistant Chief Westmoreland and thank Chief Scotty Shiver for his years of dedicated service to the people of Texas.

MOVE OVER OR SLOW DOWN — IT’S THE LAW! 🚔

On an early morning, a Texas Department of Public Safety Trooper was conducting a traffic stop when a passing driver failed to Move Over or Slow Down and nearly struck the Trooper. Thankfully, the Trooper reacted quickly and was able to get out of the way.

The Trooper caught up with the driver and conducted a traffic stop. The driver was found to be intoxicated and arrested.

🍺 If you plan to consume alcohol, plan ahead and get a sober ride. Call a friend, family member, or rideshare service. There are plenty of options to get home safely.

🚨 Move Over one lane when approaching emergency vehicles displaying flashing lights. If you cannot safely move over, slow down at least 20 mph below the posted speed limit.

Let’s keep our Troopers, first responders, and everyone on Texas roadways safe. 🤠
