Stockyards Preservation Foundation Provide education, sponsor preservation projects, support historic structures & raise funds for the Fort Worth Stockyards National Historic District.

Operated exclusively as a 501(c)(3) charitable and educational organization, the purpose of the Stockyards Preservation Foundation of Fort Worth, Inc. is to provide educational programs concerning the heritage and history of the Fort Worth Stockyards National Historic District. To sponsor preservation projects concerning historic structures within the District, to provide a database of information

concerning activities and events taking place within the District, to take a management role and if appropriate, an ownership role for the operation and supervision of selected historic structures within the District and to conduct fundraising activities in support of the above.

Property owners planning a $175 million redevelopment project in the Fort Worth Stockyards are asking the city’s Historic and Cultural Landmarks Commission for permission to add windows and doors to the facades of the century-old horse and mule barns on Exchange Avenue.

Friends,

Because so many of you are calling and emailing with concerns about our historic Stockyards, I believe this short update is warranted. The Design Standards Task Force, appointed by the City Council, does, indeed, seem to be stalled, but for many reasons.

First, committee members have yet to agree on their scope and a vision. I am not really sure why so many references to historic "preservation" and "safeguarding" are being deleted out of the first section of the draft standards. We residents and business owners hold this historic area dear. We want to preserve this heritage for perpetuity, and we want to make sure the area is economically viable.

Personally, I am concerned about the height of new construction. Our historic buildings cannot be dwarfed by tall structures even if they have a "western" facade!
