Fort Worth Sister Cities International Connecting globally. Thriving locally. Every city larger than Fort Worth has a Sister Cities program – and none is more active or effective than ours.

As the 13th-largest city in the United States – and one of the fastest-growing – Fort Worth must expand its global perspective to sustain success. Forming international relationships, fostering new business connections and promoting tourism and cross-cultural understanding are vital to seizing opportunities and overcoming challenges in a global era. We manage the City of Fort Worth’s eight sister

city relationships around the world – from Nagaoka, Japan, to Toluca, Mexico. We orchestrate internationally recognized inbound and outbound exchange programs; provide essential instruction for protocol and diplomacy; produce unparalleled youth and educator programs; and conduct exchanges to foster economic development and mutual respect. In an increasingly smaller world, Fort Worth Sister Cities plays a huge role in enhancing the image of our city abroad – helping to improve the lives of our citizens and enhance global opportunities for all. Led by a dedicated board of directors and with the help of more than 2,000 volunteers a year, Fort Worth Sister Cities has a long history of accomplishment – but we want to achieve even more. Our goals include:
• Establish a virtual Center for Global Relations
• Increase participation of Fort Worth youth
• Involve more citizens through hosting, educational seminars and events
• Expand international relationships that support economic development
• Enhance our current sister city relationships and identify new ones

Funding and in-kind support from the City of Fort Worth play a key role in our mission, but most of our work is made possible through the support of our members. This group is a thriving network of individuals, organizations, corporations and community leaders committed to expanding global relationships for peace and prosperity at home and abroad.

We were thrilled to welcome university students from Toluca, Mexico’s Monterrey Institute of Technology again this year to serve as facilitators for the Dual Language Enrichment Camp at South Hi Mount Elementary!

The Dual Language Enrichment Program is designed to provide students with an immersive learning experience to sharpen their language skills. University students taught alongside Fort Worth ISD teachers from June 15th to June 30th. The K-5 dual language students learned more than Spanish and English; they built meaningful connections and experienced firsthand what it means to be a global citizen.

While in Fort Worth, the Toluca delegation also had the opportunity to explore and give back to the community. They visited the Historic Stockyards, Kimbell Art Museum, Amon Carter Museum, and Dickies Arena, and participated in community service projects at the Tarrant Area Food Bank, the Welman Project, and the Diamond Hill Community Center. They also joined the community in celebrating Mexico through the FIFA watch parties at La Gran Plaza.

The program concluded with a closing ceremony on June 30th at South Hi Mount Elementary, celebrating the students’ achievements, growth, and remarkable progress throughout their three-week immersive experience.

A heartfelt thank you to our partners across Fort Worth for welcoming this incredible delegation! And a huge thank you to our host families for opening their homes and sharing Fort Worth culture with our guests!

The City of Fort Worth and Fort Worth Sister Cities International spent last week in Heidelberg and our sister city of Trier, Germany as part of the European Union Cities Gateway Program . Our cohort is part of the Digitization & Urban Innovation Thematic Cluster. Fort Worth joined , # Edmonton, , , , and and exchanged information about how the cities are using artificial intelligence, data-driven decision making, digital twins, and smart city administration to solve common municipal challenges.

City of Fort Worth Assistant City Manager Valerie Washington and Fort Worth Sister Cities International Director of Exchanges and Outreach, Beth Weibel, represented the City of Fort Worth in this cohort.

The program began with the group meeting in Heidelberg for two days, sharing presentations about current challenges and brainstormed about how Artificial Intelligence is being used to identify and manage them. The second part of the week was spent in our sister city of Trier, where the city demonstrated how they are utilizing the AI tools to solve common problems. Green space initiatives, healthcare, emergency management, and public transportation were on the agenda for our program in Trier. We returned with multiple ideas for future collaborations with our new friends in the cities gateway cluster.

Thankfully, this is a four-year program, so we have the time to further develop, manage, and carry out special projects. Stay tuned for more details as these projects come to fruition.

Our Youth Ambassadors have officially returned home after an unforgettable exchange in Trier, Germany!

From exploring Roman history and stepping into the world of ancient gladiators to meeting local leaders and representing our community abroad, these students experienced far more than sightseeing. They built friendships, broadened their perspectives, and gained a deeper understanding of what it means to be a global citizen.
