ROSS FIRE 🔥 ANIMAL EVACUATION PREPAREDNESS

AIR is closely monitoring the Ross Fire impacting Palo Pinto and Jack Counties and the surrounding communities.

Our team is reaching out to animal welfare partners and facilities that could potentially be affected to make sure they have an evacuation plan in place and know how to reach us should assistance be needed.

If you are in or near an affected area, now is the time to prepare your animals — not when fire is at your doorstep.

🐾 Companion Animals

* Keep pets indoors and where they can be quickly secured.
* Have carriers, crates and leashes ready.
* Pack food, water and medications.
* Make sure identification tags and microchip information are current.
* Know where you can safely evacuate with your animals.

🐴 Horses & Livestock

* Identify where your animals can be relocated before an evacuation is ordered.
* Have trucks and trailers fueled, accessible and ready to go.
* If you don’t have enough transportation for your animals, begin arranging assistance now.
* Prepare halters, leads, medications, feed and identification.
* Consider moving animals early. Loading and transporting livestock can take considerably more time than evacuating companion animals.

🔥 Most importantly: Do not wait until conditions become dangerous to leave. Follow evacuation instructions from local officials and law enforcement. Never leave animals tethered or confined in a way that prevents them from escaping danger.

AIR will continue monitoring conditions and communicating with our partners as the Ross Fire develops.

If you are an animal shelter, animal organization or facility/property that houses animals in the affected area, please review your evacuation plan now.

Stay alert. Stay prepared. Keep animals safe.

The University of Florida’s Veterinary Forensic Sciences Laboratory held its annual conference in Orlando, Florida, this past May. The 2026 Animal ForensiCon offered workshops and educational sessions covering a wide range of topics, including criminal investigations, animal law, small animal investigations, equine and livestock investigations, and wildlife crimes.

The Paige Anderson Fund for Education for Animal Welfare (PAF) was created to provide continued and advanced educational opportunities for law enforcement officers (LEOs), animal control officers (ACOs), and animal emergency responders. This year, through the Paige Anderson Fund, we were able to sponsor AIR’s Licensed Veterinary Technologist, Renay Peters, to attend the three-day conference.

🎸Battle of the Bands UPDATE🎸- Great news! The last of our crew made it to their Rescue partners! Little Alec joined Muttley Crue members (Mick Mars and Glen Sobel) on their 1,022 mile road trip to our long time friends at Midwest Animal Rescue & Services in MN! Cindy Crawford of the Bone Jovi Response and her team traveled 797 miles to our new friends at True Companions Animal Shelter & Clinic in CO!

Let's show both organizations some 💕LOVE💕 - follow their work and give to their mission! We could not have positive outcomes without help for the most abused/neglected animals in our cases.
