Storm Debris Assistance Update - Dumpsters Full.

Please be advised that as of 4:30 pm on Friday, August 14th, 2026 the Dumpsters for the collection of downed storm related tree limbs and branches, located at the South Hills Civic Club (10 Bluegrass) and Former Fort Wright Civic Club (115 Kennedy) are FULL. The dumpster located at Volunteer Park (35 Park Road) has lots of capacity still. Full dumpsters will be switched out asap by Rumpke.

Kenton County has declared a state of emergency following Tuesday’s severe weather.

Heavy rain, flooding and high winds caused widespread damage across the County, including downed trees and power lines, property damage and thousands of power outages.

As cleanup continues, residents are encouraged to take advantage of available resources, including the County’s trash voucher program for storm-related debris. Many cities are also establishing debris drop zones for residents. Contact your city government for information about locations, hours and what materials are accepted.

In response to the significant storm damage experienced throughout our community, the City of Fort Wright is taking additional steps to assist residents with storm debris cleanup efforts.

Beginning in the afternoon on 08/14/2026, the City will have dumpsters available at the following locations for a limited time to allow residents to dispose of storm related debris:
- South Hills Civic Club – 10 Bluegrass
- Volunteer Park – 35 Park Road
- Former Fort Wright Civic Club – 115 Kennedy

These dumpsters are intended ONLY for storm-related tree and yard debris, such as downed tree limbs, branches, and leaves.

Please do not place the following materials in the dumpsters, as you may be subject to dumping fines and disposal fees:
- Used tires
- White goods, such as refrigerators, washers, dryers, or other appliances
- Household garbage or other household waste
- Hazardous materials such as batteries, oil, or paint
- Materials unrelated to storm-related tree and yard cleanup

Residents may also place storm-related tree and brush material at the curb for collection by Rumpke at no additional charge. To ensure that the material can be safely collected, all tree and brush material must be:
- Bundled securely
- No more than five (5) feet in length
- No more than eighteen (18) inches in diameter

Please place these bundled materials at the curb next to your trash cans on your normal collection day. Please do NOT obstruct streets, sidewalks, storm drains, or other public areas.

We understand that many residents are eager to clean up their properties following the storm. Please take your time and use extreme caution.

Never approach or attempt to move a downed power line. Downed or damaged wires should always be considered energized. Keep children and pets away from damaged areas and report downed wires to Duke Energy or emergency services.

Residents should also use appropriate caution when operating chainsaws, removing large limbs, or handling heavy debris. If a tree or limb is entangled with a power line, do not attempt to remove it yourself.

By working together and following these guidelines, we can help make the cleanup process safer and more efficient for Residents, City Crews, and essential utility personnel.

As you may know, we have a small Public Works department (three full-time people) and a storm like this stretches them well beyond their capacity. We appreciate your patience as we work to clean up after this severe weather event.

An update from Duke Energy:

Over the past 24 hours, Duke Energy workers have restored power to more than 171,000 customers across Greater Cincinnati despite multiple rounds of severe weather, fallen trees, road closures and extensive damage to the electric system.

We know many throughout Kenton County will spend the coming days cleaning up fallen limbs, but those downed branches don't have to pile up in your yard. All Kenton County residents are eligible to participate in our monthly 𝗧𝗿𝗮𝘀𝗵 𝗩𝗼𝘂𝗰𝗵𝗲𝗿 𝗣𝗿𝗼𝗴𝗿𝗮𝗺, which allows you to get rid of bulky items, including yard debris, for FREE at Bavarian Waste in Walton.

Here's what you need to know:
👉 Sign up online through CivicRec at https://bit.ly/KCVoucherApp
👉 Apply for a voucher (don’t forget your trash bill!).
👉 Once approved, head to Bavarian Waste, located at 12764 McCoys Fork Road in Walton, Monday–Saturday to drop off your items.

NOTE: Only 200 vouchers are available each month, so don't wait. Each household can claim one voucher a month (up to 10 per year).
