We had a great time at the City of Elsmere Summer Kick Off yesterday! A big thanks to the City of Elsmere for putting together such a fun community event for Northern Kentucky neighbors.

Last week, SD1 spent the day with campers at Campbell County 4-H Nature Camp, and it was the sweetest.

We talked about clean water, explored how litter can impact local streams, then headed out together for a trail cleanup. The kids brought so much energy and curiosity, and we loved seeing them care for the same parks, trails and waterways our community shares.

Big thanks to Campbell County 4-H for having us!

We know things are tight. SD1 is reducing the residential stormwater fee for the fifth time in six years.

Here’s the full picture for changes appearing on residential bills beginning in August:

✅ Stormwater fee: from $3.90 to $3.70 per month, a 5.13% reduction.
✅ Tap fees: frozen to support regional housing efforts
➡️ Wastewater charges: up 2.8% for the average residential customer, bringing average wastewater service to about $57/month

Looking for a summer project that gets kids outside and teaches them how we are all connected to local waterways?

Start with the storm drain on your street.

There are more than 22,000 storm drains across Northern Kentucky, and each one plays a role in carrying rainwater from our neighborhoods to local creeks, streams and rivers.

Through SD1’s Save-a-Stream program, your group can help spread awareness about stormwater pollution by placing signage on a local storm drain.

You sign up with a group.
We provide the materials.
Your selected drain gets signage that reminds neighbors that what goes down the storm drain can end up in local waterways.

Pop quiz: Do you know Kentucky's state amphibian?

Meet the eastern hellbender, has a clean water message for our region.

The hellbender is North America’s largest salamander, reaching up to two feet in length and living life submerged beneath flat rocks in cool, flowing streams.

Hellbenders breathe through their skin, which means they require clean, oxygen-rich water to survive.

Their presence in a stream can be an indicator of a healthy aquatic ecosystem.

They've actually been documented in the Licking River in Northern Kentucky, which matters because hellbenders are listed as endangered in the state.

They may look a little funky, but they're a powerful reminder of what's at stake when it comes to our local water quality.

Pets make our lives better and they can help protect our waterways too.

During National Pet Month, SD1 has been proud to partner with Kenton County Animal Services to support local shelters and send new pet families home with free supply kits to help keep Northern Kentucky's waterways clean.

When it comes to pet waste, remember: bag it. trash it. stop water poo-lution. And finally... SUPPORT YOUR LOCAL ANIMAL SHELTER.
