This Memorial Day, the Wheeler County Sheriff’s Office would like to pause and remember the brave men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice while serving our country. Their courage, dedication, and selflessness will never be forgotten. We also recognize the families who continue to carry that sacrifice each and every day.

As members of the law enforcement profession, we understand the meaning of service, sacrifice, and answering the call when others need help. Today, we honor all who gave their lives protecting the freedoms we enjoy.

This Memorial Day weekend was an extremely busy one throughout Wheeler County with the Spray Rodeo & Half Marathon and numerous community events and gatherings taking place across the county. Despite limited staffing, our deputies responded to multiple incidents throughout the weekend while working to keep residents and visitors safe. Seeing multiple Life Flight helicopters overhead near Spray was a reminder of just how quickly emergencies can happen.

We would like to sincerely thank the Volunteers throughout our community who stepped up and assisted over the weekend. We would also like to thank the Oregon State Police, Gilliam County Sheriff’s Office and Frontier Regional 911, Your teamwork, professionalism, and dedication helped make this Memorial Day weekend as safe as possible for everyone involved.

Thank You All!
