🔥 FIRE RESTRICTION UPDATE

Stage 2 fire restrictions will be rescinded effective 12:01 a.m. Monday, August 31 on all unincorporated private and state lands in the Central Area of:

📍 Millard
📍 Juab
📍 Sanpete
📍 Sevier
📍 Wayne
📍 Piute counties

Stage 1 fire restrictions will remain in effect.

While recent moisture has provided some relief, conditions can change quickly. Please continue to use good and check current restrictions before having a fire or engaging in activities that could spark a wildfire at utahfireinfo.gov.

Thanks to increased moisture and lower temperatures we have reduced the fire restrictions. Please keep in mind open burning and fireworks are still prohibited. County and state land should follow their stage 1 restrictions. @

I’ve ordered U.S. and Utah flags at all state facilities to be lowered to half-staff beginning today in honor of firefighter pilots Chris Andersen and Miles Elliott, who lost their lives while battling the Widemouth 2 Fire.

Flags will remain at half-staff until sunset on the day of the last interment. I invite Utahns, businesses, and organizations across the state to join us in this recognition.

We are deeply saddened to share that wildland firefighter Nathan Matthews, 43, of Lincoln, Nebraska, died Friday from injuries sustained while responding to the Knowles Fire in western Colorado on June 27. Nate had been receiving medical care for burn injuries sustained during the incident.

Nate was a dedicated member of the Rifle Helitack crew out of Colorado and was one of five firefighters involved in a burnover during initial attack operations. Three firefighters – Emily Barker, Nick Hutcherson, and Sydney Watson – died at the scene.

Please keep Nate’s family and the wildland fire community in your thoughts. Information regarding memorial services for Nate will be released at a later date.
