The Fountain Valley Police Officers' Association (FVPOA) was formed to aid members of the organization in times of distress, sickness, accident, and death. The FVPOA also confers with governmental bodies as necessary, in accordance with the law, to improve the working conditions, salaries, benefits, pension, and job tenure of the members. In addition to helping it's membership, the FVPOA regularly

lends assistance to those in need within our community through donations, activities, and community service.

08.13.2026 | 6:10 PM | WESTMINSTER — Police Arrest Suspect After Hours-Long Barricade Standoff.

Westminster police arrested a 37-year-old Torrance man Wednesday night after an hours-long standoff that began when he allegedly fled from Los Angeles police and barricaded himself inside a building near the Westminster Civic Center.

The suspect was taken into custody shortly after 9 p.m. after officers located him on the roof of the building, Westminster police Commander Andy Stowers said. Police also recovered a firearm they believe was connected to the suspect.

The standoff began around 1:45 p.m. as Los Angeles police officers were investigating a wanted violent felon near Beach Boulevard and 15th Street, Westminster police Commander Mike Harvey said in an update posted to the department’s page.

According to police, the suspect fled from LAPD officers on foot. When officers attempted to contact him, he ran into a nearby building while carrying a bag. Police believed he was armed and considered him dangerous.

Stowers said the man was wanted in connection with an assault with a deadly weapon.

Westminster police said the suspect was arrested on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon, domestic violence, criminal threats and being a felon in possession of a firearm.

Employees inside the building were ordered to shelter in place for several hours while police worked to resolve the standoff. Orange County’s SWAT team assisted with the operation and escorted workers from the building, with the evacuation continuing until about 8:30 p.m., Stowers said.

The standoff prompted the closure of city government offices and a portion of Beach Boulevard. Police urged the public to avoid the area as a heavy law enforcement presence remained in place.

Officers repeatedly used a loudspeaker to order the suspect to surrender.

“Come out with your hands up and nothing in your hands, the building is surrounded,” officers could be heard saying.

Police said multiple attempts to establish communication with the suspect were unsuccessful before officers ultimately located and arrested him.

No injuries were reported.

DATE/TIME OF OCCURRENCE: 8/9/2026 @ 11:32 P.M.
PARTIES INVOLVED:
VICTIM(S): Janely Gutierrez, 17 years old, resident of Garden Grove
SUSPECT(S): Ethan Vidal, 18 years old, resident of Garden Grove

NARRATIVE:

On Sunday, Aug. 9, 2026, at 11:32pm, Garden Grove Police Officers were sent to the 8800 block of Hewitt Place in regards to a medical aid regarding a female bleeding from the head.

Upon officer's arrival, they located one female victim bleeding profusely from the head area. She was transported to a nearby hospital in grave condition. During the investigation, Officers learned that the victim and her live-in boyfriend, Ethan Vidal, 18, of Garden Grove, were involved in an altercation. The boyfriend voluntarily spoke with Officers and was subsequently taken into custody for attempted homicide. On Monday, Aug. 10, 2026, the victim was pronounced deceased.
