Dear County Commissioners,

Please honor Ordinance No. 2024-18 and select members of the Public Lands & Trails Citizen Advisory Council based upon their technical knowledge and experience, and not upon where they live or on their loyalty to a commissioner. At one of your recent meetings, I heard one commissioner state that he wanted someone on the Advisory Council who thinks like he does. Decisions about conservation should be based upon science. We need to spend funds on conserving lands which are most important for aquifer recharge, flood control, biodiversity, wildlife protection, and natural resource protection. We need to spend the funds on trails located in places which benefit the public and respect our local history. Many voters supported the Bond Referendum for Public Lands and Trails because of the qualifications for members of the Advisory Council. Changing the rules now looks like a bait and switch maneuver. Please don't lose the trust of voters who are passionate about protecting Lake County's natural resources.

The Board today approved this change. Some commissioners have already made their decision for their district, but the application process remains open for the at-large seats.

At the May 6th Meeting, the County Commissioners were unable to come to a decision about how to appoint the members to the Public Lands and Trails Acquisition Advisory Board (PLTAAB). The ordinance, as approved by the voters set out critiera for the nine member board. There was a lengthy discussion at the meeting and some commissioners would like to change the committee member selection to 'Commissioner's Choice' for each district.

They have already accepted board applications for the following 9 seats but have extended the application deadline because there was not good representation across the 5 commissioner districts.

(a) One (1) member with technical knowledge in geology, including soil and water.
(b) One (1) member with technical knowledge in biology, including botany and zoology.
(c) One (1) member with technical knowledge in local history.
(d) One (1) member with technical knowledge in recreation.
(e) One (1) member with experience in the development of recreational trails and trail systems.
(f) Four (4) members who are familiar with Lake County geography and natural assets.

The Lake County Consersvation Council has submitted a letter to the county encoraging them to follow the criteria set out in the approved ordinance rather than changing it to allow single district choice.

We are thrilled to announce that the 4 Corners Clermont Democratic Club has officially merged with the South Lake Democrats.

By merging with the South Lake Dems, we eliminate duplication of efforts and we gain resources and opportunities. We want to reassure you that our work in 4 Corners will not stop. Our mission remains unchanged and we are committed to turning Lake County blue.

Even though the overall election outcome wasn't in our favor, we achieved excellent results in 4 Corners precincts 175 & 180.
- Democrat turnout was over 92%.
- Every Democrat on the ballot received over 50% of the votes.
- Amendments 3 & 4 received over 60% of the votes.

Your dedication and hard work have been instrumental in our success, and we are confident that, with your continued support, we will achieve even greater things together.

We encourage all members to join the South Lake Democratic Club and be active participants in this new chapter. Your involvement is crucial, and we look forward to seeing you at upcoming meetings and volunteer events.

Results were different for the country, state, and county, but every single Democrat on the ballot won in Lake County Precincts 175 and 180. We also exceeded the 60% threshold for Amendments 3 & 4.

We can only control our little piece of the world and we won thanks to the hard work and dedication of our volunteers.

Voting at PCT 180 was a blast today!
We handed out hundreds and hundreds of voter guides and were visited by a parrot. 🦜
Regardless of the outcome of the election, our volunteers have given it their all over the past two years. Thank you to everyone who knocked on doors, made phone calls, sent text messages, wrote postcards, waved signs, and donated to the 4 Corners Clermont Democratic Club !!
