As Chief of the Fowler Police Department, I want to personally recognize and thank the Fowler officer who assisted during the recent multi-agency pursuit that moved through our community. Their professionalism, composure, and commitment to public safety reflect the values we strive to uphold every day.

This incident also serves as a reminder that public safety is a team effort. We are grateful for the strong partnerships we share with the La Junta Police Department, Rocky Ford Police Department, Otero County Sheriff’s Office, and the Colorado State Patrol. Working together allows us to respond effectively and safely to complex incidents that cross jurisdictional lines.

I am proud of our officer’s role in this response and appreciative of every agency involved. Cooperation like this is what helps keep our communities safe.

⚡ FOWLER PD – POWER & FIRE NOTICE ⚡

Black Hills Energy has issued a PSPS Watch in case high winds create fire risk. This does not mean your power will go out. We are sharing this so everyone can take a few minutes to be ready and stay safe ❤️

🌬️ Weather Tuesday, Feb 17
• 🔥 Red Flag 10 AM to 7 PM
• 💨 Winds 30–40 mph, gusts up to 65 mph
• 💧 Humidity as low as 11%

While nothing may happen, fires can start and spread quickly. Strong winds may also down trees and power lines. Please take this opportunity to prepare and check on neighbors, especially the elderly or anyone who may need help 🏡

Helpful tips:
• 🔋 Charge phones, radios, and backup batteries
• ⛽ Fuel vehicles and generators
• 💡 Have flashlights ready and avoid candles
• 🏥 Plan for medical devices or anything that needs power

Fowler PD will monitor the situation and provide updates. If you hear any updates or see changes in your area, please feel free to comment so our community can stay informed. Staying prepared helps keep everyone safe and calm.

Today’s fire in the 67000 block of Highway 50 of Pueblo county, just outside Fowler, showed exactly how a small community takes care of its own.

Our Volunteer Fire Department responded quickly and did an outstanding job containing the fire and protecting nearby homes. Their readiness, training, and willingness to serve made the difference, and our community is safer because of them.

Because our Police Department was closer, officers responded immediately to check the area and support the fire crews. This included working with partner agencies and the railroad to temporarily stop rail traffic so firefighters could safely run water lines across the tracks and focus on putting the fire out.

From the resident who called it in, to the volunteers and responders who showed up, this is what neighbors looking out for neighbors looks like.

Communities like ours don’t work without people willing to step up. If you’ve ever thought about volunteering, especially with our fire department, now is the time. It takes all of us to take care of each other.

Thank you to our Volunteer Fire Department, our partner agencies, and our residents. We’re proud of this community.

**Public Safety Announcement: Successful Apprehension of Suspects Following High-Speed Pursuit**

On August 3, 2024, at approximately 1900 hours, Fowler Police Department attempted to initiate a traffic stop on a blue Hyundai for failure to yield and suspicious activity. The driver of the vehicle chose to elude police, leading to a high-speed pursuit down 5th Street and onto East Swink.

The pursuit concluded when the vehicle pulled into a residence. The driver attempted to flee on foot but was quickly apprehended within the residence. The driver now faces multiple charges, including felony eluding, driving under revocation, careless driving, reckless endangerment, and additional outstanding warrants.

The passenger, who also fled the scene, was apprehended at the intersection of 6th and Park. They are charged with accessory to a crime, felony eluding, and multiple outstanding warrants.

A third individual was arrested for obstructing and assaulting a peace officer.

We extend our gratitude to the Otero Sheriff's Office and the Colorado State Patrol for their invaluable assistance and swift action during this incident.
