This summer, I have the pleasure of having three amazing interns working in our district office. They are helping with drafting legislation, planning events, and assisting neighbors. They joined me in Harrisburg for a day-on-the-job. They saw bills roll through committees, learned about the history of the House floor, and got a tour of the beautiful Capitol.

I’m grateful for their hard work and look forward to working with them through the summer. They’re proud to make a positive impact on our community and I’m glad to have them on !

Today, I met with Deputy Streets Commissioner Rich Montanez about our Northeast Philadelphia streets.

Over the last year, many neighbors reached out to me, asking for improved road safety. They pushed for speed cushions to end speeding on streets like Verree Rd. and Bustleton Ave. They have asked for improved road markings. I asked to meet with PennDOT and the Streets Department to make sure they hear from you…the neighbors, the drivers, bike riders, pedestrians, and residents who use these roads daily.

The Commissioner and I discussed poorly labeled warnings and inaccurate speed limits on Verree Rd., as well as the far too tall speed cushions right before Pennypack Park.

I brought up requests for more signage and improved protections for pedestrians crossing the newly paved Rhawn St. as well as adding concrete protections to prevent any more senseless car crashes due to illegal driving. I look forward to working with our city partners to improve Northeast Philadelphia streets. I thank Commisioner Montanez for his time.

Our community is demanding more safety and slower streets and I won’t settle for less.

I’m proud to announce this year’s Fox Chase National Night Out, hosted by my office, in partnership with the Fox Chase Town Watch and the 2nd and 7th Police Districts, will be on August 4! The event will begin with a community bike ride at 5 PM, starting at the Fox Chase School, and festivities, with food trucks, family fun, and many other vendors, beginning at 6 PM at the Fox Chase School Yard (500 Rhawn St, Philadelphia, PA 19111). I’m excited to celebrate our community and hope to see you there!

I will be hosting Veteran Service Office Hours this month on June 16. A representative from the American Legion will be at my office that day to help veterans with any issues or items related to their service or the VA. Call my office at 215-331-2600 to schedule an appointment!
