The Wisconsin DMV is warning residents about recent phishing scams involving fraudulent text messages that appear to be from the DMV, urging caution and vigilance.

Nature of the Scams
The Wisconsin Department of Transportation (WisDOT) has reported a surge in phishing attempts where scammers impersonate the DMV. These messages often claim to be "final notices" regarding unpaid traffic violations or other urgent matters, attempting to trick recipients into clicking on malicious links or providing personal information. Some messages are designed to mimic official DMV communications, making them appear legitimate.

The DMV will never text you regarding unpaid traffic violations. WisDOT said people should be suspicious of demands for immediate action, personal information or money.

Other tips include not sharing personal information with unsolicited messages, avoiding clicking on unknown links and signing up for DMV eNotify alerts to monitor account activity. The DMV also provided resources for victims, including filing a police report, reporting to the Federal Trade Commission or Internet Crime Complaint Center and requesting a free credit report.

The City of Fox Lake Police Department in cooperation with the Wisconsin Department of Justice (DOJ) and the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA), will participate in National Prescription Drug Take Back Day on Saturday, April 25th at 248 E. State St. at the police department.

“Drug Take Back Day is about prevention,” said Attorney General Josh Kaul. “Please help with the fight against addiction by disposing of your unused and unwanted medications at a Drug Take Back event this Saturday, April 25, 2026, or at a permanent drug drop box.”

This effort will continue to bring focus to the issue of prescription medication abuse in Wisconsin. Drug Take Back Day provides a safe, convenient, and responsible means of disposal, while also educating the community about the potential abuse and consequences of improper storage and disposal of these medications. Find your nearest drug disposal location: www.doseofrealitywi.gov

Unused or expired medicine should never be flushed or poured down the drain. Water reclamation facilities are not designed to remove all pharmaceuticals and trace amounts are showing up in rivers and lakes.
GUIDELINES:

All waste pharmaceuticals must be generated by a household – no businesses are allowed.

Bring: Prescription (controlled and non-controlled) and over-the-counter medications, ointments, patches, inhalers, non-aerosol sprays, creams, vials, pet medications, v**e pens or other e-cigarette devices (batteries removed).

Do Not Bring: Illegal drugs, needles/sharps, acids, aerosol cans, bio-hazardous materials (anything containing a bodily fluid or blood), personal care products (shampoo, soaps, lotions, sunscreens), household hazardous waste (paint, pesticides, oil, gas), mercury thermometers.

• Participants may dispose of solid, non-liquid medication(s) by removing the medication from its container and disposing of it directly into a disposal box or into a clear sealable plastic bag. Plastic pill containers should not be collected. Blister packages without the medications being removed are acceptable.

• Liquids will be accepted during this initiative. However, the liquids, creams and sprays must be in their original packaging. Liquids without the original packaging will not be accepted.

• Illicit substances such as ma*****na or methamphetamine are not a part of this initiative and should not be placed in collection containers.

Community members are also reminded that many drug disposal boxes are open year-round.

Our department had a few fishing poles left over from last summer that were graciously donated by Kids and Mentors Outdoors KAMO and their great organization. So, Officer Hanke took the opportunity on this beautiful night to go out and find some kids enjoying some fishing.

We know this weather is a teaser, but we love seeing kids outside taking advantage of it while it lasts. Each of them was giving a pole in hopes that they continue to enjoy the great fishing Fox Lake has to offer.

Chief Olbinski attended the 2026 Dodge County Executive Law Enforcement Associations Awards Banquet at Old Hickory Golf Club last night, honoring the department's Citizen of the Year nominee, Hunter Kennow.

Hunter was nominated by our departmentsfor his heroic actions on September 5, 2025. At Kwik Trip, Hunter called 911 and administered life-saving CPR to a gentleman in the parking lot until emergency responders arrived.

Hunter's swift response and willingness to intervene during a critical emergency made a significant impact, and his actions embody the qualities worthy of Citizen of the Year recognition.

Sharing this construction update to give time to find alternative routes to avoid the construction.

An update on construction:

We wanted to inform the community of some updates on construction projects this summer.

The State DOT will be repaving Highway 33 from Randolph to Forest Street. This will start approximately April 1 and will be complete by approximately June 30. While there will be an official detour, the road will be open to local businesses and residents with flagging operations.

Starting from approximately July 6 through approximately September 30, Dodge County will be repaving Highway A from 151 to 68 in Fox Lake.

Both the State DOT and Dodge County have worked to coordinate these projects, so we don’t have two projects going on simultaneously.

The City of Fox Lake will be starting a Fox Lake Construction Task Force. The Construction Task Force will promote Fox Lake during this summer and provide updates to the community on the project. The Mayor and Council are in the process of appropriating funding for this group. Anyone, particularly local business owners are encouraged to participate in these meetings. If you wish to be added to the email lists for construction related updates, please email the City Administrator at [email protected].

This updated schedule avoids three years of road construction in a row instead of having projects for the duration of the construction seasons in 2026, 2027 and 2028, this completes two projects in one construction season in 2026 while giving a reprieve before the 2028 project. The 2028 project is the most significant project because it involves a road reconstruction and utility projects in the downtown area of Fox Lake.

For more information, please contact the City Administrator at [email protected] or by phone at 920-928-6288.

The City of Fox Lake looks forward to working with the community on these needed projects.

Sincerely,
The City of Fox Lake

It has come to our attention that someone is making phone calls claiming to be fundraising for fallen officers on behalf of The City of Fox Lake Police Department.

Please DO NOT give any monies to these people, we are not fundraising for any cause. These are scammers and the monies they "raise" is not going to any type of charity or police department.

Please pass the word around.
Stay safe and warm!
