City of Framingham Seeking Volunteer Coordinator for Callahan Center

The City of Framingham is seeking qualified applicants for the position of Volunteer Coordinator at the nationally accredited Callahan Center/Council on Aging.

The part-time position is 18.5 hours per week and plays an important role in supporting programs and services for older adults in the Framingham community. The Volunteer Coordinator is responsible for recruiting, supervising, scheduling, and supporting volunteers for a variety of social, recreational, and educational programs offered through the Council on Aging.

The Callahan Center, located at 535 Union Avenue, is a 25,000-square-foot, fully accessible facility serving residents age 55 and older. The Center offers exercise, wellness, educational, recreational, and support programs at little or no cost to participants. The Council on Aging is committed to promoting healthy aging and providing inclusive services for Framingham’s diverse older adult population, including bilingual support in Spanish and Portuguese and programming supportive of LGBTQ+ older adults and their allies.

“This position is an important part of the Callahan Center team and helps strengthen the connection between volunteers and the many programs and services offered to older adults in our community,” said the City of Framingham. “Volunteers are essential to the success of the Center, and this role helps ensure those volunteers feel supported, engaged, and valued.”

The Volunteer Coordinator will also assist with implementing programs and activities, maintaining volunteer records, supporting volunteer recognition efforts, and serving as a backup for program support activities as needed.

The position is classified as M-4 on the City’s municipal employee classification plan, with an hourly pay range of $25.69 to $26.20. The City of Framingham currently operates as a 100% onsite work environment.

Schedule
Tuesday: 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Wednesday: 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
Thursday: 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Friday: 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Some schedule flexibility is required.

Preferred qualifications include an associate’s degree or equivalent experience in customer service and volunteer coordination, strong communication and organizational skills, proficiency in Microsoft Office programs, and experience working with older adult populations.

Applicants must possess a valid Massachusetts Class D Driver’s License, reliable transportation, and the ability to travel as needed.

The position will remain open until filled.

The City of Framingham seeks candidates who value civility, collegiality, teamwork, diversity, equity, and inclusion in serving the community. The City of Framingham is an Affirmative Action/Equal Opportunity Employer.

🚧 National Public Works Week Spotlight: Wastewater Division 🚧

Behind the scenes every day, the City’s Wastewater Division plays a critical role in protecting public health, maintaining infrastructure, and supporting our community’s quality of life.

The Wastewater Division is responsible for collecting and transporting approximately 10 million gallons of sewage daily and serves more than 17,000 residential and commercial accounts throughout the community.

The Division also works closely with the Massachusetts Water Resources Authority (MWRA), which manages the transport and treatment of wastewater.

The City’s wastewater collection system includes:
• 231 miles of gravity mains
• 18 miles of force mains
• 43 pumping stations
• 6,500 manholes
• More than 40 miles of cross-country sewer-line easements

During National Public Works Week, we thank our dedicated wastewater professionals for their essential work to keep our infrastructure operating safely and efficiently every day.
