Happy Purple Heart Day!!!!!

Recognizing the bravery and heroism of Sergeant Major Yvette Dawn E who survived injuries in Afghanistan. She said: "Bullets have no [military occupation specialty] or gender assigned to them." For her actions, Edmonds was awarded the Purple Heart. The Purple Heart is a United States military decoration awarded in the name of the president to those wounded or killed while serving, on or after April 5, 1917, with the U.S. military.

When presented the opportunity to medically retire, Edmonds declined.

"It was a pivotal moment in my career," she said. "I choose to stay on and finish my time serving. My experience in the Army has been wonderful. Through all trials and difficult times, even being blown up, I still love the Army and that's why I didn't medically retire."

She is still serving her country as a Religious Affairs Sergeant Major. Continued blessings to this awesome Soldier....
