On the Radar...👀

If you haven't already signed up for our Fresh Coast Bookshelf program, what are you waiting for?! Read books about our beloved Great Lakes, participate in our Great Lakes photo contest, earn prizes...it really is that simple! Stop in today and our staff will be happy to tell you all about it!

🎵 On Tuesday evening, the Frankulele Ukelele Club is back from their summer hiatus. If you've ever been interested in learning a new instrument- now is your time! (And don't worry, Wickson has ukeleles available in our Library of Things!)

🖍 Adult Coloring Club starts at 10:30am on Wednesday. Drop in for a cup of coffee, some friendly conversation, and the relaxing and meditative qualities of coloring! All supplies are provided.

🕛PLEASE NOTE: We have a delayed opening on Thursday, September 3rd! Due to an all-staff meeting, Wickson will NOT open until 12PM! Thank you for understanding.

💻On Friday, the guys from SummIT Technology Services will join us in the Community Room for Tech @ 10. Bring your questions!

HAPPY LABOR DAY! We will be closed on Saturday, September 5 and Monday, September 7th.

On Wednesday, our Memory Cafe attendees made their own paper sailboats while enjoying music, coffee, and good conversation!

Memory Cafe takes place the last Wednesday of the month at 10:30am- join us next month!

If you love the customer service at your library, nominate them by this Friday for the State Librarian’s Excellence Award. Each year a MI library (public, academic, school, special, tribal, etc.) is recognized for their outstanding service to their patrons. Share your today! Thank you to The Mendel Family Fund for sponsoring this annual award in honor of the late June Mendel, a former library director. Applications for 2026 can be submitted through August 28. What better way to celebrate the dog days of summer than with National Dog Day?! In honor of the day, the dogs of Wickson wanted to share their favorite reading materials. 🐾

🥹Luna is Hopelessly Devoted to her owner, Kristen. While Kristen's other pup, Penny, is looking remarkably spry for her age thanks to the book, How to Age Gracefully.

🤓Ms. Barger's beloved Hazel was unanimously voted Best Reader when she showed up in her reading glasses with J.R.R. Tolkein's The Hobbit under her arm!

🐰Jen's dapper dogs, Flitzen and Kaiser prefer a quick read like Pat the Bunny so they can get back to what they do best...which is (ironically) trying to pat bunnies.

🥩Kirsten's dogs, Riggs and Murray, couldn't be more different. While Riggs prefers the solitude of a quiet library, Murray's head is filled with thoughts much like the title of HIS favorite book, When will Jesus Bring the Pork Chops? (He's admittedly never read this book, he's just partial to the title.)

👀Katie's dog, Mavis, is still reading from the Children's Wing, with Friends are Not for Biting being one of her all-time favorites. Proof that it never hurts to revisit the books you loved when you were younger!

And last but not least, we end our National Dog Day post with Luna the Cat (which is such a cat thing to do. 😅) Luna's favorite book is Green Eyes...mostly because it draws people's attention to her own stunning green eyes.

So, there you have it, a motley selection of book recommendations curated lovingly for you by the staff dogs of Wickson!

As we slowly gear up for the busy fall season, we have just a few events to take note of for the upcoming week here at Wickson Library!

🍹TOMORROW (Monday, August 24th) is our Haymaker's Punch presentation with Darla Wiggins from Gypsymadekitchen. Darla will provide a demonstration on how to make your own punch- which is a traditional recipe packed with health benefits! Registration is required. Interesting in attending? Give us a call tomorrow morning to see if we still have space available!

☕Wednesday is the next installment of our monthly Memory Cafe program. Those living with memory loss and their caregivers are invited to join us in the Community Room for a time of respite and connection.

🌺Fourth Friday Arts & Crafts takes place Friday at 11am. This month, Jen will lead the group in making pressed flower bookmarks. Registration is required.

And the week's community-led events are Bridge Club at 3:30pm on Wednesday and Mah Jongg at 12pm on Thursday.
