On October 7-8, The Future Forward Education & Career Center located at the Fayette Regional Juvenile Detention Center held an amazing life skills event with 45 students and 8 dedicated volunteers participating in a Reality Fair! The event was modeled after the “Money Smart - Guide to Organizing Reality Fairs” program created by the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation. KECSAC even got in on the fun by volunteering as one of the vendors.

Students had a blast engaging in a realistic simulation of monthly financial decisions that adults face every day. From choosing the right cell phone plan to deciding what kind of car they could afford, or even balancing housing and entertainment costs, they got hands-on experience managing a budget.

A crowd favorite was “The Unexpected Event,” where students drew cards to see if they got a bonus, an inheritance, or had to deal with an unexpected expense like a repair. It was a fun and eye-opening way to show how life can throw surprises at you!

Unlike a typical classroom lesson, the Reality Fair was engaging and interactive. Each student was randomly given a career after spinning a career wheel, and they had to think critically about their income, expenses, and how to balance it all. This gave them a true taste of real-life budgeting and financial decision-making. It was a fantastic way to help them practice making informed choices about their future financial lives. 💸

State Agency Children School Administrators Association Welcomes New President

The State Agency Children School Administrators Association (SACSAA) is pleased to announce the appointment of Jeremy Camron as its new president at their Annual Fall Meeting on September 13, 2024 in Elizabethtown, KY. Mr. Camron, who previously served as the President-elect for two years, brings a wealth of experience and dedication to his new role. Camron has served as principal at Owensboro Day Treatment in Owensboro, KY since 2018, and has 23 years of teaching experience.

SACSAA, a member group comprising school administrators in Kentucky Educational Collaborative for State Agency Children (KECSAC) programs, plays a crucial role in supporting educational initiatives for state agency children. The organization's leadership is vital in ensuring the continued success and development of these programs.

In his capacity as SACSAA president, Mr. Camron will represent the association on the KECSAC Interagency Advisory Group (IAG). This important responsibility involves providing strategic guidance to KECSAC leadership through collaborating with state agency partners from the Kentucky Departments of Education, Juvenile Justice, Community Based Services, and Behavioral Health, Developmental and Intellectual Disabilities.

Mr. Camron's transition from President-elect to President demonstrates the organization's commitment to leadership continuity and professional development. His two-year tenure in the previous role has undoubtedly prepared him for the challenges and opportunities that lie ahead in his new position.

The KECSAC programs, which SACSAA administrators oversee, are designed to provide educational services to children in state agency custody. Through KECSAC, the Commonwealth of Kentucky annually provides residential and community-based services to approximately 8,000 state agency children, currently in 71 programs across 47 school districts. These programs cater to a unique student population that our state agency partners operate, fund, or contract services with including residential facilities, group homes, and day treatment centers. State agency children also reside in private childcare and mental health programs operated by child welfare agencies and organizations. The work of SACSAA and its leadership is therefore critical in ensuring that these students receive high-quality education tailored to their specific needs.
