Kentucky Department of Aviation The Mission of the Kentucky Department of Aviation is to provide a safe secure air transportation. There are 57 public use airports in the Commonwealth.

Six of those are designated as commercial service airports by the FAA (Louisville, Covington, Lexington, Paducah, Owensboro, and Bowling Green). The remaining 51 public use airports are categorized as general aviation airports (GA).

After more than 26 years of leadership, Gary has played a tremendous role in transforming the airport into a welcoming gateway to Eastern Kentucky. He has helped make Big Sandy Regional Airport one of Kentucky’s standout general aviation airports!
