FSA Identifies FAFSA Renewal Issue

Federal Student Aid (FSA) has acknowledged an issue causing an error message for some applicants who are trying to access their 2023-24 FAFSA renewal form. In recent weeks, applicants have reported instances in which they have received an error message when trying to access their renewal form informing them that the renewal form is not available. November is Kentucky College Application Month

It's College Application Month!

Governor Andy Beshear declared November 2022 as College Application Month in the Commonwealth, encouraging more Kentucky students to pursue education beyond high school graduation.

Led by the Kentucky Higher Education Assistance Authority (KHEAA), College Application Month seeks to increase the number of Kentucky students pursuing a college degree or other higher education credentials. KHEAA’s partners in this effort include the American College Application Campaign and multiple education and college access organizations.

“Kentucky is experiencing an historic economic boom, and businesses need qualified employees who have the technical skills and educational training necessary to handle these new jobs,” Gov. Beshear said. “Now is a great time for students to apply to a college or technical school that will help prepare them to take on the jobs of the future.”

The college application process can be confusing and intimidating, but KHEAA staff are available to help guide high school students through personalized, onsite assistance. The agency also has created free, online toolkits for Kentucky College Application Campaign participants at kygoestocollege.com. Students, parents and college access professionals can sign up for mobile assistance by texting ‘OUTREACH’ to 1-800-928-8926.

“We have so much to be thankful for this holiday season and we are all looking forward to some time off this week,” said Diana Barber, interim executive director at KHEAA. “I hope students will use this free time wisely and complete their college application requirements.”

‘College Circuit’ can help students plan their future

Kentuckians planning for technical training or higher education should check out “The College Circuit,” a helpful informational booklet published by the Kentucky Higher Education Assistance Authority (KHEAA).

“This booklet will help students decide if they want to get more education after they finish high school,” Lt. Gov. Jacqueline Coleman said. “If they do, they’ll find valuable information to help them learn how to pay for that education.”

Counselors can use “The College Circuit” to help their students plan for college and technical school. The booklet includes information about careers; state and federal financial aid; tips for parents; online resources; and a template for setting up a personal college plan.
Kentuckians can request a free copy by emailing [email protected]. They should include their address with the request.

Yesterday, in the final hours of the 2022 legislative session, we passed Senate Bill 163. This bill was especially important to me, as I was able to work with the Senate to include an amendment incorporating the provisions that I wrote into HB 234, allowing our students to use their KEES money at trade schools.

When drafting that bill, I knew it would take some creativity to secure its passage. I am glad that I was able to include the contents of my bill in SB 163 with bipartisan support. With the passage of SB 163, we have created a law that will benefit our kids who will finally be able to use their KEES scholarships at trade schools. I have worked hard to ensure students’ hard-earned KEES money can be utilized at whichever institution is best for them. Traditional colleges and universities are not the only paths to success, and now, with your help, I have been able to ensure more opportunities are open for our children to gain skills that will lead to happy, productive, and highly lucrative careers.

I want to thank the Kentucky Chamber of Commerce, the Kentucky Higher Education Assistance Authority (KHEAA), and all of you for helping push this legislation across the finish line. Expanding educational opportunities to our children was a promise that I proudly made, and now we have delivered! With your help, we will continue building opportunities for the 70th District and our Commonwealth.
