If you are a Kentucky Medicaid provider, you might have heard that the department is conducting revalidations outside of the usual schedule to comply with a directive from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. These off-cycle revalidations only affect some providers. If you're one of them, you will receive a letter from Kentucky Medicaid with directions on the steps you must take.

No. You can work or be in a job training program, go to school, volunteer, or do a mix of all three to meet the requirements. Members or applicants aged 19 to 64 who qualify for Medicaid based on income are subject to work or community engagement requirements. Learn more at MedicaidChanges.ky.gov.

A federal law passed in July 2025 is changing the rules about who can get Medicaid and what some members must do to keep it. You may be affected if you are ages 19 to 64, qualify for Medicaid based on income, and are not exempt.

Question 1: Under the upcoming Medicaid rule changes, do all members or applicants have to meet work or community engagement requirements to keep their coverage?

No. Medicaid work and community engagement requirements apply only to members or applicants ages 19 to 64 who qualify based on income. There are exemptions for people who are disabled, pregnant, or provide care to a child or person with a disability. Learn more at MedicaidChanges.ky.gov.
