KHC can’t thank Dean Jessie and Steven Wiglesworth of Georgetown enough for a wonderful afternoon. On Friday they provided us with a special treat to celebrate preservation of historic resources throughout the Commonwealth. We enjoyed lunch and a tour of their home. It is an amazing!!! adaptive reuse of the First African Baptist Church. Staff archaeologists even got to investigate the basement. Other guests included Scott County Judge Joe Pat Covington, incoming Mayor Burney Jenkins, Local Historian Ann Bevin, Journalist James Scoggin, and Photographer Sarah Hoskins.

Native American Heritage Month 2022 is almost over.
This 1989 Kentucky Heritage Council poster showcases Jimmy Railey's stunningly detailed scenes of Native lifeways and technology.
Time and space are creatively depicted. Time moves from bottom (oldest) to top (most recent). Dark dark triangles on the poster edges mark the boundaries of the archaeological periods.
Southern and western Kentucky tools and containers are shown on the left side of the poster. Central and eastern Kentucky examples are on the right side.
Lifeways scenes and scenes of villages and camps - all are drawn from archaeological information and research carried out in Kentucky.
This is our Commonwealth's Native heritage - a heritage to celebrate and preserve 12 months a year!

It is a bittersweet day for the Kentucky Heritage Council as we announce that Diane Comer, our long time Public Information Supervisor and Site Development Program Manager, has accepted a new position as Public Information Officer for the Kentucky Board of Nursing in Louisville. This is an excellent opportunity for one of our most seasoned preservation professionals.
Diane was recruited to the Heritage Council by former State Historic Preservation Officer (SHPO) David Morgan after two years in the University of KY Historic Preservation graduate program, joining KHC in 2002 under contract through UK to help direct KHC’s role as lead state agency in presenting the 2004 National Preservation Conference in Louisville, in partnership with the National Trust. From there she joined the staff in 2004 as Information Office Supervisor responsible for public relations and media, and later administering the website and integrating social media. In 2018 she took on additional duties as Site Development Program Manager responsible for overseeing federal and state rehab tax credit programs and KHC’s easement portfolio.
She has worked under four SHPOs and is most proud of her roles assisting early on with preservation efforts at the Joseph Holt House in Breckinridge County, organizing the annual Ida Lee Willis Memorial Foundation Historic Preservation Awards ceremony, assisting with various state conferences, overseeing the state tax credit program, and helping raise the public profile of the agency.
We extend our deep appreciation to Diane for all that she has accomplished for preservation statewide and we will miss her leadership, experience and skill at the state office. Join us as we congratulate her on a long and successful career at the Kentucky Heritage Council and wish her well in her new role with the Kentucky Board of Nursing!
That's the official announcement from Executive Director Craig Potts... personal note from Diane: "It has been my privilege to work for this agency and the KY Tourism, Arts, & Heritage Cabinet and to partner with and learn from such a talented and hard-working group of professionals. So many people and projects it's hard to single out a few, but of all the things I take with me the most important are great memories of all the staff who have come and gone, friendships made along the way, and preservation successes that outweigh the losses. For now I look forward to taking on a new challenge, and may our paths cross again soon!" - Diane
