JFHQ would like to thank everyone who came out for our Annual Family Day event! We enjoyed eating a good meal, playing tug-a-war, and getting our faces painted with you! The pie in the face event raised approximately 600 dollars for our family readiness group.

Congratulations to SGT Jeannie Figueroa and her husband on her retirement!

Today the KYNG JFHQ Company welcomed Maj. Jason Gannone as the new company commander and said goodbye to Maj. Kaiya Wurtele as the outgoing commander during a ceremony at Boone National Guard Center.

Col. Kent Cavallini presided over the ceremony and distinguished guests were The Adjutant General Maj. Gen. Haldane B. Lamberton, Brig. Gen. Brian Wertzler, CW5 Rickey Skelton and Brig. Gen. (Ret.) Steven King.

Gannone worked as a Linguist and an Air Intelligence Officer in the Marine Corps. He has served in the KYNG, to include multiple deployments, since 2016. As a civilian he proudly serves Kentucky as a Frankfort Police Sergeant.

Gannone said he was always amazed at the professionalism and ability to adapt to complex missions he sees in a diverse group of Army Guardsmen.

“I have come to expect professionalism, adaptability and unique ways of dealing with challenges from Soldiers in the Kentucky National Guard," said Gannone. "I expect each of you to know your job and perform it well. I expect you to bring your unique skillsets to the table and be a vital part of the team. Im confident if each of you do that we will accomplish every mission we have here at Joint Force Headquarters.”

The JFHQ wishes outgoing commander MAJ Kaiya Wurtele and her family good luck in all future endeavors. Thank you, Ma’am for your leadership and team-building mentality!

Congratulations are in order as CW4 Louis M. Webber, with G-4 logistics, was promoted to Chief Warrant Officer 5 yesterday among friends and family in Frankfort, Kentucky.

Chief Webber we pinned by his wife, Cecilia, and son, Aldon.

Webber has worked in G-4 for almost 15 years with COL Steven Engels, the current director.

"Our units across the Kentucky Guard have received some amazing logistical support from CW5 Webber in the past 15 years," said Engels. "He has been an amazing part of our team and I know we are going to continue seeing great things from him."

CW5 Webber was excited for the day, "I know they always say 'you are in control of your own career' but I would not have made it this far without my mentors, my peers, and my Soldiers helping me along the way. I especially thank my family for all the sacrifices they have had to make in my career."

Congratulations CW5 Webber!

Congratulations CW5 Donnie Smither on your promotion! 🎉

Chief Warrant Officer 5 Donald Smither II, the Kentucky National Guard Ordnance Ground Maintenace Officer, was promoted to the highest warrant officer rank in the US Army at the MG Billy G. Wellman Armory on BNGC in Frankfort, KY.

The ceremony was overseen by the Deputy Chief of Logistics Col. Steven Engels.

Chief Warrant Officer 5 is a rare rank within the United States Army, representing master-level technical and tactical experts. Only about 4% of warrant officers ever achieve Warrant Officer Five.

Smither, who is from Franklin County, was accompanied by his wife Lori, his son and daughter, his grandson Alton and other members of his extended family and former unit members.

He has currently served 32 honorable years as a commissioned officer and a warrant officer in the Kentucky National Guard, deployed to Iraq in 2003, mobilized to Africa in support of the State Partnership Program and volunteered for many state active duty missions serving the people of the Commonwealth.

Smither said he always wanted to be a warrant officer but never would have thought he would be as successful as he is today.

“Always thought I would want to run a shop…primarily to make a difference and make things better for employees,” said Smither. “I achieved the dream of managing a shop, and I like to think we were successful in improving things for employees across the state. I’m so grateful for the career the KYNG has given me.”

Smither also said he was thankful to everyone including mentors, educators and his family, who supported him throughout the years.

Congratulations, Smither family on your promotion, and for your Unbridled Service!

Congratulations to the now MAJ Megan Walton!

Hosted by COL. Brandye Williams, Walton was promoted in the Wellman Auditorium today at BNGC in Frankfort. Walton credits her growth in her Army career to her family and colleagues.

"This means everything to me and to my family, mostly, because all the time that I've put in and been away from them," Walton said. "It shows recognition. For that I am grateful for the opportunity to serve and especially with the Kentucky National Guard and the 149th MEB. It's been rewarding for me, but the promotion is really a recognition of all that work."
