After storms and other disasters, fraudsters and scam artists often arrive quickly so it is important to stay alert to frauds and scams:
✅ A tree removal service may claim tree removal is covered by insurance, however your policy may state that tree removal is covered if the tree fell on your home, but not in your driveway.
✅Do not take a contractor’s word that insurance will pay for their service. Always verify with your insurance company.
✅ Do not sign any documents until you fully understand what you are signing. Beware of pressure to sign documents presented electronically, like on an iPad, that you cannot fully read and review.

Today and tomorrow is the best time to prep for the weekend’s wintry weather and get errands checked off!

While we pretreat roads, mobilize equipment, and get ready to deploy nearly 1,500 plow trucks and 300,000+ tons of salt for the snow that’s expected to fall across the state, you can get yourself ready too:

✅ Get groceries.
✅ Fill up your gas tank.
✅ Pack an emergency car kit (first aid, blankets, food, water) for you and your passengers. With dangerously cold temps for days, it’s not only smart but could be life-saving if stranded on the road.

Of course, if you don’t have to travel, don’t; but you can still bookmark snowky.ky.gov for road conditions, traffic cams, safety info.

Today, Team Kentucky launched a new website StopScams.ky.gov to further help protect Kentuckians from scams.

“Scams are mean and cruel, and they cost Kentuckians of all ages their hard-earned savings that should be going toward rent, groceries, retirement and more,” said Gov. Beshear. “While we’ve made progress in stopping scammers, a 2024 FBI report showed Kentuckians are losing more than $74 million each year to online scammers – something we won’t tolerate. Through this new website, educational events and more, we’re going to help protect Kentuckians by equipping them with the tools they need to stay safe."
