Our Technical Rescue Team got some great training in this past week. We're always working to be better than we were the day before and ready for the next call.

We wouldn't be able to complete the specialized training we do at Kentucky Avenue without the amazing support of our community partners. Once again, DJ Towing came through for us!

A huge thank you to DJ Towing for providing equipment and helping make this valuable training possible. Partnerships like these help ensure our team is prepared to serve our community when it matters most.

FFD would like to take the time to celebrate May’s anniversaries, and this month we have two very special members to recognize. Both are celebrating 10 years of service, and we couldn’t be more proud of the tremendous abilities and skills they bring to our department.

Sergeant/Paramedic Cody Spaulding and Sergeant/EMT Matt Stevens care deeply about serving this community, this department, and their roles on the team. They come to work eager to learn more and always ready to teach the next young person early in their career.

Please join us in thanking them for all they have done and continue to do for FFD and our community. Happy Anniversary, gentlemen!

Here at Frankfort Fire & EMS, we take the medical side of our job very seriously. As EMS Week comes to an end, we want to thank everyone for showing us so much love and appreciation throughout the week!

We also want to take this opportunity to recognize and highlight all of the hardworking Paramedics on our department.

This week is EMS Week, and the City of Frankfort is honored to host the EMS Memorial. As a Fire-based EMS department, this memorial holds deep meaning for Frankfort Fire & EMS. One day, the permanent memorial honoring fallen EMS personnel will stand beside our fallen firefighters at Juniper Park, a lasting tribute to those who dedicated their lives to serving others.
Yesterday, we came together once again for the 2026 EMS Memorial Ceremony to honor and remember those we have lost. We would also like to extend our sincere thanks to Multiply Church for graciously hosting us due to the weather and helping ensure this important ceremony could still take place.

Frankfort Fire & EMS is incredibly proud of Captain Barnett and the students of the Fire Science Program at Franklin County Career & Technical Center.

Monday night, Franklin County CTC held its annual Awards Banquet to recognize the hard work and dedication of students across its many career and technical programs and FFD’s two Co-Ops, Shelby Simpson and Talan Gillion, had an outstanding night.

Shelby Simpson earned her Firefighter Apprentice 1 certification, was named Fire Student of the Year, and also received CTC Student of the Year honors.

Talan Gillion also earned his Firefighter Apprentice 1 certification, meaning both students have completed at least 100 specific fire career training hours and are one step closer to becoming firefighters.

We have truly enjoyed having Shelby and Talan with us and being part of the Frankfort Fire Family.

We would also like to congratulate Makenzie Kilpatrick, another Fire Science student, for competing in the SkillsUSA competition and proudly representing Franklin County CTC.

Thank you to Captain Barnett and Principal John Sanders for always supporting and investing in these amazing young people. The future of the fire service is looking bright!

Frankfort Fire & EMS is proud to announce the graduation of our newest Firefighter/Paramedic, Blake Shelton!

Firefighter Shelton came to FFD already serving as a Paramedic, ready to take on the dual role of Firefighter/Paramedic and serve our community at the highest level. Today, he officially earned that title as a graduate of the The Fire Academy of Kentucky Recruit Class 008.

While attending the academy, Blake was also selected by his classmates to receive the Leadership Award, a true reflection of his character, work ethic, and dedication to the fire service.

Please join us in congratulating FF/Paramedic Blake Shelton on this incredible accomplishment and welcoming him home to Frankfort Fire & EMS. We are excited to have him as part of the FFD family and look forward to the impact he will make serving the citizens of Frankfort and Franklin County.

Everyone knows that Frankfort Fire & EMS is hiring ( Apply here: https://secure4.entertimeonline.com/ta/6140073.careers?CareersSearch=&lang=en-US ) but that doesn’t mean the work has slowed down.

As the weather continues to improve, so does the demand for public fire safety education throughout our community. From teaching students hands-on fire training skills and even getting City Commissioner Katima Smith-Willis involved in the learning. To hosting fire extinguisher classes, providing free extinguishers to our amazing residents, helping families create home safety plans, installing smoke alarms in their homes, and welcoming Cub Scouts and their familes into our stations for tours. FFD crews stay committed every single day.
