Kentucky Virtual Library

Kentucky Virtual Library Kentucky Virtual Library (KYVL) functions like a consortium of Kentucky libraries.

Kentucky Virtual Library (KYVL) is a consortium of over 300 Kentucky libraries and institutions, including colleges and universities, public libraries, K12 schools, hospitals, the Kentucky Department for Libraries and Archives (KDLA), and more. KYVL primarily negotiates contracts for digital resources and administers services, such as the ground courier service to public libraries, public colleges

& universities, to provide equitable access to quality library and information resources for all Kentuckians through its members, which includes most of the public P-20 organizations in Kentucky. KYVL was created with the passage of the Kentucky Postsecondary Education Improvement Act of 1997 and went online in 1999. Kentucky Virtual Library is unit of the Kentucky Council on Postsecondary Education.

Happy Birthday to the Kentucky Virtual Library!

Since our launch on November 1, 1999, KYVL users have logged over a billion searches and nearly 100 million full-text, image and video views or downloads.

Kentucky members over the past 25 years have included all of Kentucky's public universities, the Kentucky Community and Technical College System, private and independent colleges and universities, public libraries, public school districts, private schools, hospitals, military bases, state government agencies, and more.

Most of KYVL 350 members have been a part of KYVL from the beginning. Together, we've served the Commonwealth by providing equitable access to resources through research databases, courier service for interlibrary loan, and the digital collections of the Kentucky Digital Library, and now Affordable Learning KY, so Happy Birthday to the Kentucky Virtual Library!!

EBSCO LearningExpress Library has so much to offer a wide range of learners. We generated a list of Top 15 resources used in LearningExpress Library for the first quarter of 2024-25. Keyboarding was the most used resource the first three months of the fiscal year. That's a surprise. And ACT® test prep and nursing school admissions test prep were among the most used for this quarter as well as Praxis® practice.

There are 10 LearningExpress Library modules or centers. You can link to any of them or just to the main LearningExpress Library landing page. Get in touch with us at [email protected] for the file of links. Each KYVL member library or school district has a unique authentication token or alphanumeric string as part of the URL to collect usage statistics. You can place any and all links on your website.

We subscribe to these 10:

Admissions Test Prep
Adult Core Skills
Career Prep
College Students
Computer Skills Center
GED® Test Prep Center
Grades 4-8 Educator Center
High School Students
Job & Career Accelerator
Recursos Para Hispanohablantes

Because LearningExpress tracks an individual's progress, each user must register for an account with their preferred email.

Consider also adding the LearningExpress MARC records to your library catalog. Patrons will find the LearningExpress resources in your catalog and then click on a link. You will also add about 200 ebooks to your catalog covering essential skills in math, English language arts, science, social studies and more, for high school, college and adult learners as well as admissions and career test prep and job seeking support. PDF ebooks can be downloaded.

Support the learners in your community with LearningExpress resources for career preparation, skills building and test prep. View our LearningExpress for Librarians handout for detailed information.

We can provide the Auth Token or MARC access key that you need for the MARC records download. Please get in touch.

Kentucky Association of School Librarians (KASL)

School library folks --

We started doing single sign-on in summer 2022. We have 105 districts set up.

What SSO means is that instead of the KYVL-assigned district login, students and staff will use their school email to sign into KYVL.org resources.

Send these instructions to your DTC. https://kyvl.libwizard.com/f/sso

Setup takes just a few minutes on each end.

New LOGINS are coming July 1st!

Our new LOGINS will be in place July 1. The format of the login has changed and many usernames have changed. Please be sure you record both.

You can request the login via our online form if your email address is a unique email domain in our system -- KYVL.org/pw. It's under the padlock button in the upper right of KYVL.org.

If you have a public school email address, we have that. If you have an email with your library name or abbreviation, we have that.

Public libraries note: Those in public libraries that use Gmail, iCloud, or similar email addresses that are widely available, we can't validate them in our system. Library staff will need to email us at [email protected].

Old logins ending in #24 will be deactivated on October 1st to allow everyone transition time.

Single sign-on (SAML login) for K12

We have about 100 public school districts -- over 450,000 students! -- set up to log in using school email accounts. And a few private schools. We can make accommodations for private schools or other organizations with email domains limited to Kentucky users if Google or Microsoft manage the accounts.

If you have interest in this, get in touch. Or share these links to your network/DTC folks.
