🚫 Abandoned Mine Safety Alert

Stay out, stay safe. After recent rescue incidents in Kentucky and across the region, officials are reminding everyone that abandoned mines are extremely dangerous. These sites can collapse without warning, contain toxic gases, and have hidden dangers that are impossible to see until it’s too late.

If you come across an abandoned mine:
Do not enter. Do not explore. Report it.

Your safety — and the safety of first responders — depends on avoiding these hazardous locations.

The loss of one of our miners is never easy. Please keep this family in your prayers and know that the Division of Mine Safety deeply mourns with them. Our entire mining community feels this loss. We continue to pray for the family and all their loved ones during this difficult time.
