This afternoon Station 4 was called to a vehicle fire in Lake Township. We were advised it was fully engulfed while in route. Firefighters fought for over two hours to knock down and extinguish the flames using water from four trucks and mutual aid from Station 6 tanker due to a full tank of gas and a bed full of building materials. Special thanks to NPS and Benzie Co Sheriff’s Dept for traffic control and support, and to Big Dog towing for your quick response. There were no injuries, the driver and his sweet dog, Oakley, are safe and sound.

Part 2 on Park Avenue at the old daycare and Benzie EMS buildings. Our probationary firefighters had another opportunity to train with seasoned firefighters, and seasoned firefighters had an opportunity to brush up on their skills as well. Today’s event also included 4-Tower training, roof ventilation, mayday rescue, and salvage and overhaul.

Last night’s training was a prelude to Sunday’s bigger event on Park Avenue at the old daycare and Benzie EMS buildings. Our probationary firefighters had an opportunity to train with seasoned firefighters, and seasoned firefighters had an opportunity to brush up on their skills as well.

Safety alert: M22 is still shut down between Ellsworth Trail and Heron Road from the bus and wildland fire that happened around 3 PM this afternoon.  Towing crews are attempting to remove the bus. Please use an alternate route.

Good news! Charlie has been found! He’s scared but unharmed! The owners are grateful and thank everyone in our generous community for helping find him.

Be on the lookout for Charlie the Yorkie. His family lost him in the Family Fare parking lot in Frankfort. He has black, brown and white paws. Call the Frankfort Fire Department if you find him. We have contact info for the owner
