Kentucky Division of Conservation

Kentucky Division of Conservation To conserve Kentucky's natural resources through education and assistance to producers and local conservation districts.

The Division of Conservation partners with federal, state and local agencies to assist landowners in installing best management practices that protect the soil and water resources of Kentucky. We promote classroom education through material development and assist conservation districts in meeting the needs of their local communities. We provide administrative assistance to the Soil and Water Conservation Commission and the Agriculture Water Quality Authority as they develop sound policy.

This week we celebrate, one of our own, our new EEC Secretary John Lyons who brings his experience backed by a remarkable 37 years of service to the Commonwealth of Kentucky and the Energy and Environment Cabinet.

From beginning his career in the Division of Water in 1989 to now serving as cabinet secretary, Lyons has devoted his life’s work to protecting Kentucky’s natural resources and serving its people.

Across five governors and numerous leadership roles, he has brought scientific expertise and a deep commitment to public service to every challenge and opportunity before the cabinet.

His impact reaches far beyond titles. Lyon’s work has helped shape energy and environmental policy across the state while his thoughtful leadership has supported the mission and people of the cabinet every step of the way. Most recently, serving as the deputy secretary.

We also want to congratulate former Secretary Rebecca Goodman and thank her for her outstanding service, leadership, and dedication to the Commonwealth. We wish her the very best in her new role at the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet.

The National Watershed Coalition's spring workshop was a memorable success. Kentucky, including DOC staff, was well represented and learned valuable information on the operation and maintenance of watershed dams. The field day photos in this post represent a very successful day, with many ideas and knowledge returning to watershed conservancy districts throughout the Commonweath. Thanks to the Big Reedy Watershed Conservancy District for hosting the demonstration site.
