A Flood Watch is in effect for most of the area today through Tuesday evening. A slow-moving storm system will bring waves of showers and storms today through Tuesday when widespread amounts of 1-2.5" of rain are expected. Localized 3-6" are possible which may result in creeks overflowing their banks and flooded low-water crossings.

A shift in the weather pattern draws in a tropical airmass from the southwest. High temperatures soar into the upper 80s and low 90s. With increased dew points, max heat indices will reach the mid to upper 90s, with isolated 100s in a few places. Relief arrives when rain and cooler air return late on Friday.

Unsettled weather with localized areas of heavy rainfall and flash flooding are possible in central KY and southern IN Monday and Tuesday. Localized amounts in excess of 3 inches will be possible in the heaviest swaths.

Our latest key messages on an early season heatwave forecast to build across the central U.S. mid-week then shift towards the East Coast late week. This will be the most significant heat so far this Summer for many, remember to stay hydrated and take frequent breaks from the sun.

A slow-moving storm system will bring widespread rainfall for everyone from Monday through Tuesday afternoon. Slight to Marginal Risk for excessive rainfall has been issued for all counties in our area for flooding concerns. Rainfall totals are generally 1-2.5", with localized amounts of 3"+ possible in our southwestern counties along with the highest flood risk outlined in a black dashed circle. Severe storms are not expected though lightning and gusty winds could accompany any storms in the area. A Marginal Risk for excessive rainfall continues for all locations heading into Tuesday.

While we've enjoyed several days of dry weather and seasonable temperatures this week, warm and muggy conditions will return this weekend, along with chances for showers and storms. Several days of hot and humid conditions are expected through next week as we get into a summer-like swing.

Starting tomorrow, but especially Sunday through Tuesday, daily chances for showers and storms are expected. As usual with summertime storms, some could receive several inches of rain, while others will receive little or no rain. The map on the left shows the rain amounts that there is a 75% chance of seeing through next Thursday. The map on the right shows the rain amounts that there is a 25% chance of seeing through next Thursday.

As you head downtown for Kentucky History Day please make note of the road closures on St Clair Mall and Broadway St.

You'll also want to be prepared for periodic cannon firings throughout the day as living history demonstrations bring Kentucky's past to life!
