We’ve got a busy summer ahead in our office, and we want Kentuckians to have a clear, simple way to follow what we’re working on. That’s why we’re launching Open Book: Updates from Kentucky Auditor Allison Ball—a new video series designed to keep you in the loop about what’s happening in our office and why it matters. In this first video, you’ll learn more about the role of the Auditor and get a recap of some of the major items my office has tackled this year.

I sent a letter yesterday to Governor Beshear and Secretary Stack urging them to stand with Kentucky families of children with Autism. When families gathered on May 27 to share urgent concerns about the lack of residential services and the challenges they face navigating Medicaid, no representatives from the administration attended. These families show up every day for their children, and they deserve a government that shows up for them.

Today at 1PM, the General Assembly’s Interim Joint Committee on Families and Children will hold a hearing on Autism and Autism services.

I enjoyed speaking to the American Legion Kentucky Boys and Girls State delegates last week. These students are learning about civics and what it means to serve. I was grateful for the chance to share my story, the important work we do in the Auditor’s Office, and the role we play in promoting transparency, accountability, and good government. These bright young Kentuckians are well on their way to becoming the leaders of tomorrow.

The governor can point fingers at the General Assembly all he wants, but Kentucky's KTAP recipients, kinship caregivers, and children are the ones paying the price. It's more than a shame--it's a devastating loss and a failure of leadership. I have provided the Governor with numerous suggestions on how to make this funding possible. See the formal suggestions we submitted to the Beshear Administration here:

Without an unforeseen intervention — the organization is actively looking into emergency funding options — it will shutter on June 30.

Each year, we perform hundreds of county audits to strengthen transparency across the Commonwealth. In May, several counties earned clean audit and AUP reports. Join me in congratulating these dedicated local officials.
