Sandra Day O'Connor lived a life of historic achievements. President Reagan appointed her to be the first woman on the Supreme Court. She also was the first woman to be Majority Leader of a State Senate in the United States. Rest In Peace.

Retired Supreme Court Associate Justice Sandra Day O'Connor has died of complications from dementia, most likely Alzheimer's, and a respiratory illness, the Supreme Court said Friday.

Five U.S. service members based out of Fort Campbell, KY died during a training mission last Friday when their helicopter crashed into the Mediterranean Sea. Their passing is a painful reminder of the sacrifices members of our military make for our country. Please join Asa and me as we mourn their loss and pray for their loved ones.

Yesterday, the Kentucky Financial Empowerment Commission met for its final meeting of 2023. It has been an honor to serve as the Chair and see KFEC grow from an idea to a non-profit serving all Kentuckians. I am proud of what the organization has accomplished, and I am eager to see it continue to grow.

In 2018, I worked with the Kentucky Legislature to pass a financial education mandate for high school students. Seniors graduating high school in the Spring of 2024 will be the first class to graduate with this requirement.

Financial literacy is important for all Kentuckians. The following year I championed a bill that created the KFEC. The mission of KFEC is to improve the financial education and financial literacy of all Kentuckians.

KFEC’s programming brings financial literacy to a range of ages and backgrounds. The organization teaches personal finance to state and local government employees, expands access to banking for low-income Kentuckians, provides an online financial education resource to Kentucky high schoolers, and much more.

In a short four years, KFEC has built robust programming that has a real impact. I am proud of the investment our state made in financial literacy to ensure all Kentuckians have the tools to navigate their finances. I believe this will have a generational impact on our Commonwealth.
