ANNOUNCEMENT FOR KENTUCKY BOAT OWNERS
We’re asking Kentucky boat owners to delay renewing their registration due to a decal reprint. Motorboat registration requests will be accommodated at all County Clerk offices starting April 3.
Annual registration renewals are typically accepted beginning March 1, but additional time is necessary to allow the decal vendor to reprint and deliver tags required to complete the registration process. A label defect in the initial print of tags means a reprint is necessary to ensure durability once exposed to water.
Current registrations do not expire until April 30, 2023.

Severe weather can make driving dangerous. If the worst were to happen while driving in bad weather, who will get the call if you are injured or killed in a car crash? Emergency Notice is an emergency contact registry that helps law enforcement officials know who you wish to be notified in case of a serious emergency. It helps first responders at the scene of a crash gain valuable information quickly when every minute counts. Provide your loved ones with peace of mind.

Meet Cireka, one of our own Women in Construction in KYTC District 6!
Kentucky Transportation Cabinet crews will soon begin treating for noxious and nuisance weeds throughout the state. The treatments aid in controlling the spread of targeted weeds along state highway rights-of-way to improve driver safety and ensure efficient maintenance operations.
Property owners who are actively treating noxious weeds on private property may request the eradication of nuisance weeds found on the adjacent state-owned right of way.

Floods kill more people in the United States each year than any other thunderstorm-related hazard. Many flood deaths are the result of people driving into flooded roads.
Some basic safety tips for flooding awareness:
⚠️ Avoid walking or driving through flood waters – TURN AROUND – DON'T DROWN!
⚠️ Do not drive over bridges that are over fast-moving floodwaters. Floodwaters can scour foundation material from around the footings and make the bridge unstable.
⚠️ Just 6 inches of moving water can knock you down, and one foot of moving water can sweep your vehicle away.
⚠️ If there is a chance of flash flooding, move immediately to higher ground.
⚠️ If floodwaters rise around your car but the water is not moving, abandon the car and move to higher ground. Do not leave the car and enter moving water.
⚠️ Avoid camping or parking along streams, rivers, and creeks during heavy rainfall. These areas can flood quickly and with little warning.
For traffic conditions, visit goky.ky.gov or download the WAZE app.
KYTC's Driver Licensing Regional Offices statewide will be closing to the public at 10:30 am EST. Although KYTC offices will be closed, our road crews continue to prepare for storm response in case they are needed. Stay safe, y'all!

Motor vehicle crashes are the leading cause of death for teens (15-18 years old) in the United States, ahead of all other types of injury, disease, or violence. Know these simple #RulesForTheRoad so you and your friends make it home safe. Wear your seatbelt No speeding No texting No alcohol or drugs Limit extra passengers #TeenSafety #TeenDriver #TeenDriverSafetyWeek
KYTC crews have spent the past two months working hard to clear debris left behind from the devastating flooding in Eastern Kentucky. Included in the cleanup is the retrieval of damaged vehicles, which are relocated to Vehicle Management Sites where their owners can reclaim them. Nearly 40 vehicles have been relocated and more than 360,000 tons of debris have been removed from waterways and roadways. These efforts help remove safety hazards, minimize potential flooding in streams during rain events, and restore communities to their pre-flood conditions. As roadside debris collection wraps up, please remember to move eligible, unbagged debris to the right of way by November 1. It’s National Move Over Day! Today and everyday - if you see flashing lights on the side of the road, #MoveOver. It's the right thing to do and the law.
In 2020, there were nearly 2,276 people killed in crashes involving a teen driver (30% were the teen driver). Make sure your teen knows the importance of obeying the Rules of the Road: don’t drive impaired or distracted, don’t speed, limit passengers, and always wear a seat belt. #TDSW #TeenDriver
Repairing bridges and building diversions (temporary crossings) has been a top priority for KYTC since the catastrophic flooding in Eastern Kentucky. Bridges are connectors, and in areas like Eastern Kentucky where a bridge is often the only way in and out for a community, they are essential. To date, KYTC has inspected more than 1,000 bridges and identified 100 in need of repair or replacement. Crews have also built over 50 diversions, establishing temporary access until permanent bridges can be built. #TeamKentucky #KYTCExtraMile Kentucky Transportation Cabinet District 10 Kentucky Transportation Cabinet District 12 Governor Andy Beshear Kentucky Emergency Management

Every three hours, a person or vehicle is hit by a train. These tragic and fatal incidents are preventable. Rail Safety Week is held to raise awareness of railroad-related deaths and injuries that continue to destroy our communities and steal the lives of friends and loved ones. Grade Crossing Safety Tips: • Never drive or walk around lowered grade crossing gates. • Never attempt to outrun an approaching train. It can take a train a mile or more to stop. • Never stop your vehicle on a grade crossing waiting for traffic to move. • Always know that the average train is three feet wider than the track on each side. • Never walk, run, play or take pictures on the railroad right-of-way. If you are on or near the tracks, you are trespassing on private property and breaking the law. • If you’re standing on the train tracks, you may not hear or feel an oncoming train. www.stayoffthetracks.org

RAIL SAFETY WEEK The clock may be ticking like the rail crossing gate, but it can wait. Always take caution at rail grade crossings and don’t get crunched by a train. #StopTrainsCant #STOPTrackTragedies
Child Passenger Safety Week In 2018, of the 634 fatalities that occurred in children 12 and under in cars, pickups, vans, and SUVs, 33% of children were unbuckled. As a parent or caregiver, you can’t prevent every scraped knee or tummy bug, but you can significantly lower your child’s chance of getting injured or killed in a car crash by ensuring they are in the right car seat. It’s important, no matter their age, that all children are in the correct car seats for their ages and sizes, and are buckled up in the back seat. #TheRightSeat
KYTC is working to quickly restore access where bridges were damaged or destroyed by flooding in Eastern Kentucky. Crews are in the field assessing needs and building new crossings. Already, more than two dozen temporary crossings have been built at bridge sites where access had been cut off, and construction has begun to build permanent bridge replacements at several other sites. By the end of the summer, KYTC expects to have permanent replacements completed on all state and county bridges where access was cut off. #TeamKentucky #KYTCExtraMile
