🦌 As white-tailed deer welcome their new fawns to New Jersey’s woods, remember to observe from a distance. Before fawns are strong enough to keep up with the adults, they are oftentimes left laying alone while their mother is away feeding. Their color pattern and lack of scent keep them safe. If you find a fawn, the best thing you can do is to leave it undisturbed and leave the area. The mother will return to nurse the fawn several times during the day.

🦌 It’s fawn season in New Jersey! If you come across a young deer lying alone, remember — it’s likely 𝗻𝗼𝘁 𝗮𝗯𝗮𝗻𝗱𝗼𝗻𝗲𝗱. Mother deer often leave their fawns while they feed nearby and return throughout the day to nurse them.

For their safety, please do not touch or move fawns. Their spotted coat and lack of scent help keep them protected until mom returns. 🌿

Thinking of Renting Your House During the World Cup?

Think Again.

Did you know that the Borough has an ordinance which prohibits short-term rentals? Did you know that even advertising or in any way marketing your home or pool for rent for a term of 60 days or less is a violation of the Borough’s ordinance?

Paragraph A of §300-158 of Article XXII “Short Term Rentals” of Chapter 300 of the Borough Code provides, in pertinent part, as follows:

“It shall be unlawful for an Owner… to receive or obtain actual or anticipated consideration for soliciting, advertising, offering, and/or permitting, allowing, or failing to discontinue the use or occupancy of any dwelling unit, as defined herein for a period of 60 days or less.”

§300-161 then makes it clear that even advertising for a short term rental is prohibited: “It shall be unlawful to advertise, solicit or promote by any means actions in violation of this article.”

The first World Cup game at MetLife Stadium is scheduled for June 13. With people coming from around the globe to attend games and watch parties for the World Cup, the Mayor and Council have serious concerns that the safety and security of our residents, as well as the right to quiet enjoyment of property, may be in jeopardy should transient visitors take over homes in our Borough. Fortunately, the Borough has the tools, starting with a strong ordinance prohibiting such short term rentals, and including the resources to assure enforcement of that ordinance, to do all it can to limit this risk.

Stiff penalties, recently amended by the Mayor and Council to up to $2,000 per day, are a compelling deterrent to anyone that may be thinking of making a short term profit.

Please do not be tempted. If you decide to rent your house for 60 days or less, or even advertise to do so, you are breaking the law, and you will be prosecuted.
