This afternoon at approximately 14:52 hours (2:52pm), District 2 was dispatched to the Franklin Park School for a fire alarm. Squad 31 responded with a crew of 4, following units from the Franklin Township Bureau of Fire Prevention. Responding units determined that the alarm was coming from a smoke detector in a classroom. Upon entering the classroom, the crew encountered a smoke condition inside. An investigation found an electric stove that had been left on, with plastic containers and papers stacked on top. A piece of paper had caught on fire but snuffed itself out prior to arrival. A positive pressure ventilation fan was placed to force the smoke out of the classroom. The scene was turned over to the Bureau of Fire Prevention for an investigation. Griggstown () Engine 35 and Utility 31 both arrived on scene to supply additional manpower and assist with ventilation.

Yesterday, Friday January 24th just after 17:00 (5:00pm) Franklin District 2 units were dispatched to the area of Route 27 and South Middlebush Road for a motor vehicle accident with possible entrapment. While enroute, Franklin PD Patrol units arrived and advised that all occupants were able to safely exit their vehicles, but still requested a response to mitigate a fluid leak from the vehicles. Responding units with the Franklin Township Bureau of Fire Prevention arrived first and established command, who confirmed no entrapment. Squad 31 arrived and was directed by command to secure the batteries to the involved vehicles as well as deploy speedy dry, an absorbent compound, to collect the leaking fluids and prevent them from entering the waterways. Griggstown (Griggstown Fire Company - Station 35) Engine 35 arrived on location a short time later and assisted the Squad Company. Ultimately, the scene was turned over to the Police Department, and all units were back in quarters by 18:15 (6:15pm).

At around 22:30 (10:30pm) on Sunday, January 5th, the FPFD along with Middlebush FD () were dispatched to Skillmans Lane for a report of a vehicle smoking after a crash. Car 31 arrived, Chief 31 established command and began investigating. The Chief initially reported an occupant still inside of the vehicle, but they were not entrapped. Squad 31 arrived shortly thereafter, bringing tools for both fire suppression and to disconnect the battery from the vehicle to mitigate any further risk of fire. Truck 31 and Car 31-2 both arrived minutes later and assisted the crew from the Squad as well as EMTs and Paramedics with patient care and removal of the patient from the vehicle. Units stood by while the car was being put onto the tow truck, ensuring there were no fluids on the ground that needed attention. With the vehicle on the tow truck and patient care turned completely over to EMS, the scene was left in the hands of the Franklin Township Police Department () for the crash investigation. All units were back in quarters by 11:45pm (23:45).

Just after 1430 hours (2:30pm), District 2 along with Station 44 () were dispatched to an address on Pasture Trail in the Franklin Park local, for a report of a dryer fire. Squad 31 responded and arrived on scene within minutes of the initial dispatch, reporting nothing showing. Once the Squads crew made entry into the apartment, they noted smoke from floor to ceiling, and at that time decided to deploy a 1 3/4” hand line to the unit for fire suppression. Simultaneously, Chief 31, who ran command for the duration of the incident, requested that Somerset County Communications () dispatch a first alarm assignment. The crew then returned to the unit with their hose line and made an aggressive initial fire attack. With quick water on the fire, they updated command that they believed the fire to be knocked, and shifted their focus to overhaul, or opening up walls and the area surrounding the fire to check for any fire spread. At approximately this time, Truck 31 arrived and set up on the “A” side, or the front of the building. The crew from the Truck entered the apartment to complete a primary search, looking for any potential victims or pockets of fire, finding none. The bucket of Truck 31 was positioned at the front entrance to the apartment for quick deployment if needed for roof access. Thanks to the quick work of the FPFD Volunteers, the fire was held to the area of origin. All units were back in service by 1645 hours (4:45pm). Other units on scene included Middlebush Chief 44 and Engine 44-2, Griggstown Chief, Engine, and Tanker 35, and Little Rocky Hill Rescue 41. A special thanks to Kendall Park Fire Department for standing by and Somerset Fire and Rescue for responding as RIC.

Saturday, December 7th proved to be a busy day for the FPFD. Just before 1415 hours (2:15pm), District 2 companies (Stations 31, 35 Griggstown Fire Company - Station 35, and 41 Little Rocky Hill Volunteer Fire Company) were dispatched to an address on Coventry Lane for a reported structure fire. Chief 31 arrived, reporting nothing showing. The residents reported an electrical fire in the basement that they attempted to extinguish. Upon entering the basement, the Chief reported no active fire, however a smoke condition remained in the basement. Engine 35 arrived followed closely by Truck 31 with a crew of 6, and crews made entry into the basement to check for any fire extension. It was determined that the fire was completely extinguished, and companies shifted their focus to ventilating the smoke condition. The scene was ultimately turned back over to the occupant and property maintenance. Other units on scene included Cars 31-2, 35 and 35-2 as well as Engine 41.

Just after 2230 hours (10:30pm), Stations 31 and 44 (Middlebush Volunteer Fire Department - Station 44) were dispatched to Hempstead Drive for a dumpster fire with reported exposure issues. Chief 31 arrived and reported a working dumpster fire, with no exposures. Squad 31 responded with a crew of 6 and quickly extinguished the flaming contents of the dumpster. This call had a special meaning for Firefighter Anthony Burroughs, as it was his first time on the nozzle for a fire. Units on scene included Cars 31 and 31-2, and Squad 31.

In between the two fires, Stations 31 and 35 were dispatched just before 2015 hours (8:15pm), to assist EMTs on a medical call with lifting a patient. Cars 31 and 31-2, and Engine 31 responded with a total of 8 personnel.
