Well Mother Nature sure threw us a few last night, didn't she? Unfortunately the aftermath has left us no choice but to cancel this morning's "Plant a Seed, Read" presentations. We're disappointed, but already at work to make Saturday's Summer Party even better in response. Remember, 12 pm downstairs in the Library.

Happy summer, everyone!

For those of you who have joined us for our Summer Reading Program this year, we wanted to remind you that you may come into the library any time during business hours to exchange the time on your reading log for raffle tickets and place them in your desired prize!

Prizes will be announced at our Summer Reading Party on July 25th. The party begins at 12pm. If you are not present and your ticket is pulled, you may still claim your prize so long as we have all your information on the ticket!

We look forward to next week's program on Wednesday, July 15th. Registration is still open!

We are having such a blast "Planting a Seed to Read" with you!!!

A Note From Linda

If this were a book, we would be starting at the last page--"The End." My "dream job" at PCPL ends on Tuesday, April 28, 2026 and I just wanted to share my appreciation. I will attempt to keep this message brief, but my heart is so full of gratitude, it will be difficult.

You, our patrons, are fabulous! Your kind words, suggestions, donations and taking the time for little "chats" with the staff are the highlights of my day. Everyone has been so kind and there is a deep love for our library in this community. I am overwhelmed by your responses.

Thank you to the third and fourth grade teachers who bring their students to the library and introduce them to the larger world of books. It is so gratifying to see their excitement about reading. Their enthusiasm is contagious.

Story time with the pre-k children is always fun and one of my favorite activities. They keep us on our toes! If you don't want honesty, don't ask a child! After Mariah read a book to the children this week, she asked the group if they liked it. One little fellow said loudly, "No, I don't like that book." We had to giggle--maybe he's a literary critic in the making.

The Friends of the Library (FOL) is a marvelously supportive group and truly "friends." In honor of National Library Week, they gave the ladies at the circulation desk a gift certificate to a local restaurant and a hardy "thank you." Please consider joining FOL and make a difference to the library behind the scenes.

Most difficultly, I have to thank my "Dream Team:" Destiny Keplinger, Mariah, and Janice Kimble. You ladies are the best and it is an honor to be with and work with you. Destiny, I look forward to a future book reading in the Community Room and Mariah, hmmm, maybe the State Librarian!

PCPL also has independent contractors who serve the library: Gail Harper (lawn maintenance) Wendy Putz (Quickbooks), and Eddie Simpson (whatever else is needed!). Thanks also to the North Fork Trash Service.

We would not be able to provide programs like Summer Reading if it weren't for our volunteers. I only had to say, "I need help," and someone came running. Our volunteers are truly appreciated and more are needed!

We would not be able to function without the financial contribution from these community agencies; The Pendleton County School Board, the County Commission and the Franklin Town Council. The Pendleton Times, especially Stephen Smoot, has always been our faithful cheerleader.

This time has been a "high point" for me and I am honored to have had the opportunity to serve you.

Remember, reading changes lives, so happy reading!

With heartfelt gratitude,

Linda
