🚨SCAM ALERT🚨

The Heard County Sheriff’s Office is warning residents about a scam involving fake warrants related to missed jury duty.

Scammers may call or contact you claiming that you have an active warrant because you failed to appear for jury duty. They may then demand immediate payment to avoid arrest or to “clear” the warrant.

⚠️ THIS IS A SCAM.

The Heard County Sheriff’s Office will NEVER call and demand payment over the phone to take care of a warrant. We will not require you to send money, purchase gift cards, provide payment information, or make an electronic payment to avoid arrest.

If someone contacts you claiming to be with the Sheriff’s Office and demands money:
• Do not send or give them money.
• Do not provide your banking, credit card, Social Security, or other personal information.
• Do not click on links or provide verification codes sent to your phone.
• Hang up and do not continue communicating with the caller.
• If you believe you may actually have a warrant or have questions about jury duty, contact the Heard County Sheriff’s Office directly at 706-675-3329

Remember: Scammers can spoof phone numbers and may use real names, badge numbers, or other information to make their calls sound legitimate.

Please share this post with family, friends, and especially elderly or vulnerable members of our community. A simple share could help prevent someone from becoming a victim.

When in doubt, hang up and verify directly with the Heard County Sheriff’s Office.

🚨 PUBLIC SERVICE ANNOUNCEMENT🚨

The Heard County Sheriff’s Office wants to make the public aware of a fraudulent traffic/court notice scam currently circulating.

Citizens may receive what appears to be an official court document claiming to be from the State of Georgia, Fulton County State Court, or another government agency regarding an alleged traffic violation, unpaid toll, parking citation, or court default judgment. These notices may include:
• Threats of immediate legal action
• Claims that your driver’s license or vehicle registration will be suspended
• Demands for immediate payment
• QR codes directing you to pay online
• Warnings involving collections, credit damage, or Social Security information

⚠️ THIS IS A SCAM.

The Heard County Sheriff’s Office urges residents to NOT scan the QR code, click any links, call suspicious numbers listed on the document, or send payment.

Important Reminders:
• Legitimate courts and law enforcement agencies do not demand immediate payment through QR codes or suspicious notices.
• Official court matters should always be verified directly through the clerk of court or the appropriate court’s official website or publicly listed phone number.
• Scammers often create documents that look very convincing by using official seals, case numbers, judge names, and legal code references.

What You Should Do:

✅ Do not respond to the notice
✅ Do not send money or provide personal information
✅ Verify any citation or court case through official government channels

If you receive one of these notices, you do NOT have to make a police report.

Please share this warning with family, friends, and elderly loved ones. Scammers rely on fear and urgency to trick people into paying money they do not owe.
