This Labor Day weekend, the Macon County Sheriff’s Office is reminding everyone to use extra caution on our roadways. ⚠️⚠️

With increased holiday travel and visitors enjoying Western North Carolina, drivers should expect heavier-than-normal traffic in several areas throughout the county. Please slow down, allow extra time to reach your destination, avoid distractions and always buckle up.

In partnership with the US Forest Service, Macon County Sheriff’s deputies are stationed at Dry Falls to assist with traffic control as visitors stop to enjoy one of our area’s most popular destinations. This initiative is funded through a grant from the US Forest Service to cover the cost of deputies to assist during peak times. If you’re traveling through the area, please be patient, watch for pedestrians and follow deputies’ directions.

Remember, the 4th of July fireworks were rescheduled to tonight in downtown Franklin. Head downtown Franklin for food, shopping, live music, and fireworks scheduled to start a little after 8pm.

Officer Cabe was handpicked by the detention staff to spotlight today. Cabe has been with us for a little over a year. His supervisor describes him as “hardworking, reliable, knowledgeable and gets along well with everyone.”

A photo can reveal more than you intended. Students may unknowingly share their location through social media posts, photos, stories, location tags, and even the backgrounds of their pictures.

Before posting, encourage your children to ask:

- Does this photo show where I am?
- Is my location or school tagged?
- Does this reveal my daily routine or schedule?
- Who can see this post?
- Do my apps have access to my location when they don't need it?

Parents can also review privacy and location-sharing settings together with their children. Consider turning off location services for apps that don't need them and avoid publicly sharing real-time locations. Take a few minutes today to check your child's privacy settings because it could make a big difference in keeping your family safer.
