The Franklin Police Department is excited about the annual SummerFest Independence Celebration, scheduled for Saturday, July 4. As our nation commemorates the 250th anniversary, this family- friendly event will bring the community together in downtown Franklin for live entertainment, vendors, and the annual fireworks display over the Chattahoochee River.

To ensure the safety of all attendees and provide adequate space for festival activities and event preparations, Davis Street and the downtown Franklin Square will be closed to vehicular traffic and parking from 12:00 am until 11:00 pm on Saturday, July 4. The closure area is highlighted in red on the accompanying aerial map.

Due to the anticipated large crowd and increased vehicle and pedestrian traffic, motorists are urged to use extreme caution when traveling in and around the downtown area throughout the day and evening. Pedestrians are encouraged to cross only at designated crosswalks in the downtown area and avoid crossing roadways in areas of heavy traffic to help ensure everyone's safety.

Following the fireworks display, law enforcement officers will be stationed at key intersections to direct traffic and assist with the safe and efficient departure of attendees. Motorists and pedestrians are asked to remain alert, follow all traffic directions from officers, and exercise patience with one another and law enforcement officers, understanding that delays are unavoidable with the high volume of attendees attempting to depart at the same time.

The City of Franklin is accepting applications for a full-time Assistant supporting the City Clerk, Municipal Court, and Police Department. This position performs a wide range of administrative, legal, and clerical duties to ensure efficient operations across multiple departments. Responsibilities include maintaining official records, assisting with court functions, supporting police administration, and ensuring compliance with applicable laws and procedures.

The hours for the position are Monday-Friday from 8:00am to 5:00pm. We cannot answer questions on social media due to the volume. Application packets can be picked up at City Hall during normal business hours or requested by email by sending an email to [email protected].

Compensation for this position will be based on previous experience and overall qualifications. The employee is also eligible for health benefits, PTO, vacation time, paid holidays, and other benefits as outlined in accordance with the City of Franklin’s personnel policy.

TRAFFIC ALERT
Expect Temporary Delays on Franklin Parkway and
Numerous Bicyclists in Western Heard County on Saturday, February 28th


The Homegrown Gravel Adventure event is estimated to have 650 bicyclists with the start and finish line located on the Downtown Franklin Square, resulting in Davis Street being closed from 10:30 pm on Friday, February 27th until 8:00 pm on Saturday, February 28th.
Motorists should expect temporary delays on Franklin Parkway between Davis Street and Glover Road as bicyclists leave the event location with a total of five start times, which are 8:30 am, 8:45 am, 9:30 am, 10:30 am, and 11:00 am.
Participants will utilize paved and gravel roads throughout the western portion of Heard County, and motorists should use extreme caution when traveling and share the roadways with the bicyclists.
Since the event consists of a 20-mile, 40-mile, 62-mile, and 100-mile course, bicyclists will be returning to the Downtown Franklin Square throughout the afternoon, resulting in minor delays to motorists traveling on Franklin Parkway between Davis Street and Glover Road.
