On a recent stormy morning, Franklin Fire Department Capt. Chuck served as a guide for state Rep. Jeffrey Roy, Town Administrator Jamie Hellen and Town Councilor Melanie Hamblen as they worked their way through flames and smoke in the Milford Fire Department’s live burn building behind its station on Birch Street in Milford, Massachusetts.

Today as you change your clocks, check your alarms. Do you need to replace any smoke alarms? If they are more than 10 years old - yes! Do they need fresh batteries? Unless they have 10-year sealed battery or you just changed them last week - then probably yes!

Congratulations to Firefighter/Paramedic Mathew LaFleur who graduated from the Massachusetts Firefighting Academy today.

Chief McLaughlin and Deputy Klich recently picked up a new boat for the department. The purchase of this boat was made possible by a donation from the Digital Federal Credit Union.

Fire Chief Jim McLaughlin and Deputy Chief Jim Klich of Franklin, Mass., get an overview of their new Achilles HB335AX Pro from Capt. Dan Adamski of Defender Boats & Motors Department.

McLaughlin and Klich said the boat will be used to support their efforts when responding to calls from Beaver, Populatic and Uncas ponds, popular recreation sites in their area.

The department added a 20hp Tohatsu outboard and Venture aluminum trailer to the 11' aluminum-hull inflatable. Klich said they were referred to Defender by a department member who shops here.

MEMA Encourages Residents to Stay Safe During Extreme Heat

Hot temperatures combined with high humidity levels are expected to create dangerous heat conditions this weekend. Heat indices, a measure of how hot it feels with temperature plus humidity, are forecast by the National Weather Service to be between 90°-100° across most of the state on Friday, and above 100° across most of the state on Saturday and Sunday. The hot temperatures and high heat indices can lead to serious heat related-illnesses.

Preparedness and Safety Information
• Never leave children or pets alone in a closed vehicle. Even with the windows cracked open, interior temperatures can rise almost 20°F within 10 minutes.
• Check with your local authorities or call 2-1-1 to find locations of cooling centers or shelters near you.
• Know the symptoms of and watch out for heat-related illnesses. Call 9-1-1 to report emergencies.
• Be a good neighbor. Check on family, friends, and neighbors, especially the elderly, those who live alone, those with medical conditions, those who may need additional assistance, and those who may not have air conditioning.

My son is going through Fire Academy for Franklin, graduates on December 6th.
We’re always grateful to have such an amazing group of first responders in Franklin- were also pretty lucky that Uncle Paul is one of them! Thanks again to Franklin Fire and Franklin Police ....
I am frankly shocked and saddened by your Trump campaign flag display during the Fireman's Parade. You turned a very good occasion into a political statement which was not the place for such a display. This was not a campaign rally but rather a time to celebrate the hard working volunteers in various fire departments. Have you ever carried a political flag in any other parade...I think not. Are you now going to start asking people their political affiliation before you fight their fire? Wouldn't surprise me.
Thank you to the paramedics and first responders on duty yesterday afternoon who came to my home when my son had a medical emergency. They were thorough, kind and compassionate, and helped make a horrible situation bearable. The ambulance crew particularly, were amazing...
