🚒Meet Your Heroes🚑—Employee Spotlight📢: Firefighter/EMT-B—Wayne Henderson
This month, we are proud to shine the spotlight on Firefighter/EMT-B Wayne Henderson, a dedicated member of our department who brings not only skill and knowledge, but a wealth of life experience to the team.
Wayne has been serving with the department for three years, but his background in the field spans an impressive 25 years. That experience shows in the calm judgment and steady presence he brings to every call. His list of certifications speaks volumes about his commitment to the job, including Firefighter I & II, EMT-B, GEMA Extrication Technician, Fire Instructor I, Fire Officer I, and Rescue Specialist.
When asked about his biggest contribution, Wayne humbly points to the experience and perspective he brings to the job—something that can’t be taught overnight. It’s that kind of wisdom that helps guide not only the work itself, but also those serving alongside him.
One of Wayne’s most inspiring accomplishments is his determination to keep learning and growing, no matter the stage of life. He proudly shared that he returned to school at age 50 to earn his EMT certification, and at 51, is continuing his education by working toward becoming a paramedic. As he puts it, “it ain’t as easy as it used to be…lol,” but that hasn’t slowed him down one bit.
What Wayne enjoys most about the department is the close-knit family atmosphere. He values being part of a team where everyone supports one another, and he takes pride in continuing to serve in what he calls “a young man’s job,” proving that dedication and heart matter more than age.
Some of his favorite memories come from the simple, meaningful moments—like when the entire shift gathers to share a meal together, especially during Christmas and Thanksgiving. Those moments of connection help strengthen the bond that makes the department feel like family.
Looking ahead, Wayne hopes to continue serving both his community and the Lord to the best of his ability, with the goal of one day advancing into an officer position within the department.
Outside of work, Wayne enjoys a wide range of hobbies that reflect his adventurous spirit. He loves flying planes, sailing, fishing, and riding his motorcycle. In fact, one of his most unique talents is being able to fly a plane for hours without a motor—a skill that certainly sparks curiosity! And if you’ve spent any time around him, you likely already know about another one of his gifts—his ability to make people laugh.
Wayne has been happily married to his wife, Annette, for 31 years, and together they’ve built a beautiful family. He is a proud father to three daughters—Amanda, Aimee, and Ashleigh—and a grandfather to two grandsons, Andrew and James.
Wayne Henderson truly represents dedication, perseverance, and heart. We’re thankful to have him as part of our department family and appreciate the continued service he gives to our community. Thank you for your service, Wayne!
