Today marked the final day of our Paramedic Recruit Class.

Over the past three weeks, our recruits have spent countless hours learning department operations, completing certifications, refining clinical skills, training alongside department personnel, and becoming familiar with the expectations of serving the Bargersville community.

From classroom instruction to hands-on training, the class has been challenged to learn, adapt, and prepare for the responsibilities that come with serving as a firefighter and paramedic.

While recruit class may be coming to an end, their journey with Bargersville Fire Department is just beginning.

We look forward to recognizing these individuals during graduation on Tuesday as they prepare to officially join our team and begin serving the communities we are proud to protect.

Today marks the final day of athletic trainer McKenna Witlin’s time with Bargersville Fire Department as she begins a new chapter in her career.

As part of the Forté Sports Medicine Tactical Athlete Program, McKenna has spent countless hours working alongside our firefighters and paramedics, helping keep our personnel healthy, addressing injuries, improving recovery, and supporting the overall wellness of our members.

The work she performed often happened behind the scenes, but its impact was seen every day. Whether assisting someone through an injury, helping prevent one from occurring, or simply being available when our members needed guidance, McKenna played an important role in supporting those who serve our community.

On behalf of the Bargersville Fire Department, we want to thank McKenna for her dedication, professionalism, and commitment to our team. While we are sad to see her go, we are excited for her as she begins this next opportunity.

We wish her nothing but success and happiness in the future. No matter where her career takes her, she will always have a family at Bargersville Fire Department and a place she can call home.

Warmer temperatures are returning to central Indiana.

As we spend more time outdoors over the next several days, it’s important to remember that heat-related illnesses can affect anyone.

Whether you’re working in the yard, playing sports, coaching, attending outdoor events, or spending the day outside, take a few simple precautions:

💧 Drink plenty of water throughout the day

🌳 Take breaks in the shade or air conditioning

👕 Wear lightweight, light-colored clothing

🧴 Use sunscreen and protective clothing

👶 Check on children, older adults, and those without air conditioning

🚗 Never leave children or pets in a parked vehicle

Know the warning signs of heat exhaustion, including heavy sweating, dizziness, nausea, headache, weakness, and muscle cramps.

Stay safe, stay hydrated, and enjoy the warmer weather.

For the past two weeks, our newest paramedic recruits have been immersed in orientation, department operations, medical training, certifications, equipment familiarization, and hands-on training alongside our fire and EMS crews.

The class has spent time learning the expectations, procedures, and skills required to serve the Bargersville community while also taking part in department training opportunities, including vehicle extrication operations.

As they begin their final week before graduation and swearing-in, we are excited to watch them take the next step in their careers and officially join our team.

🚨 Introducing PulsePoint Respond in Johnson County 🚨

When a sudden cardiac arrest occurs, every second matters.

PulsePoint Respond is a free smartphone app that can notify CPR-trained citizens when someone nearby may be experiencing a cardiac arrest in a public place. The goal is simple: connect trained bystanders with someone in need of lifesaving CPR while emergency responders are already on the way.

The app can also help users locate nearby Automated External Defibrillators (AEDs), providing another critical tool during cardiac emergencies.

According to the American Heart Association, immediate CPR can double or even triple a person’s chance of survival following sudden cardiac arrest. PulsePoint helps bridge the gap between the time a 9-1-1 call is made and the arrival of emergency responders.

Whether you’re a healthcare provider, firefighter, EMT, nurse, teacher, coach, or community member trained in CPR, PulsePoint provides another opportunity to make a difference when seconds count.

📱 Download PulsePoint Respond for free on the Apple App Store or Google Play Store.
