The Executive Committee for Camp Habitat has decided not to hold Camp Habitat in 2016.
The primary reason for this decision is that several members of the Executive Committee will have schedule and work conflicts in 2016 that will make it difficult for them to devote adequate time to Camp Habitat, both prior to the camp and during camp week.
We hope that local churches, local agencies and the school system will seriously consider developing youth service programs that have goals similar to those of Camp Habitat. If groups would like help in identifying local service projects related to Habitat for Humanity, please contact Cheryl Goodlad.
Camp Habitat has been a great success over the last five years, serving hundreds of students, homeowners (disabled, elderly and/or low-income) and nonprofit organizations. Our campers experienced directly the value and satisfaction of volunteerism and of serving others as part of their Christian faith. AmeriCorps Teams participated in Camp Habitat for three years and brought great energy, enthusiasm and project support to our community.
We thank our campers for their hard work with a positive and joyful attitude and our supporters (individual volunteers, churches, the school system, the city, and local businesses) for their wonderful help in so many ways. Camp Habitat was truly a community project.
We know that Camp Habitat has had a positive impact on the community over the last five years. We hope the influence of Camp Habitat will last many years into the future.
