Early Sunday morning, before 4 AM, this salt shed was full. Right know it is 2/3 empty. This shed holds around 2600 tons of salt when full. About 1762 tons of salt have been spread on the roadways, schools and town buildings of Franklin in last 40 hours. Salt is around $62 at ton. So just over a $100,000.00 has been spent this Spring on salt to keep the roadways safe and clear!

S.A.F.E. Coalition in Atlanta for seminars on best practices to reduce opioid addiction in our community. Thank you for their public service.

In Atlanta with members of the SAFE Coalition and Norfolk DA Michael Morrissey to attend the national summit on the public health crisis that has gripped America. We are meeting contacts and learning new strategies to fight substance abuse disorders. We were thrilled to participate in a panel discussion on the topic with President Obama who traveled to Atlanta to be with us all.

This has been a tremendous learning experience and we are anxious to bring what we have learned back to our communities.

Did you know? Smoke Alarms require routine maintenance.

Some manufacturers recommend cleaning your smoke alarms once a month. This can be accomplished by vacuuming the unit, using compressed air, or using a damp cloth on the outside of the smoke alarm. This helps reduce false or nuisance alarms. Placing fresh batteries in the smoke alarm is also a good idea. It is recommended that you test your smoke alarms once a week. Smoke Alarms must be replaced within 10 years of the date of manufacture. Carbon monoxide alarms are good for 5-7 years or replaced based on the manufacturer's recommendations. Check your owner's manual for specific instructions to follow from the manufacturer:
