Hayden Village Center Located in the newly renovated historic Hayden High School, Hayden Village Center is home to 28 affordable apartments made specifically for older adults.

Hayden Village Center includes affordable senior living, a senior wellness center, and nutrition site, onsite access to I-Ride senior transportation, wellness and exercise classes, and more. The Hayden Center also serves as the Western Tidewater hub of operations for Senior Services of Southeastern Virginia’s programs, including I-Ride senior transit and a wellness center and nutrit

ion site. This Campus for Creative Aging includes the No Wrong Door access center for aging and disability services; A medical clinic for people of all ages, operated by Bon Secours Southampton Memorial Hospital; A large multi-purpose community space available for special events; Flexible office and meeting space for community health and counseling services; the FoodBank's Healthy Food Pantry; as well as the Della Hayden Memorial Garden, and an inter-generational raised bed community garden.

We are looking for Summer Volunteers for Emergency Meal Box Delivery!

Delivery Dates We Need Covered:
📅 June 1 – June 12
🕘 Monday–Friday during business hours

As we rush into June, we need your help more than ever to deliver Summer Emergency Meal Boxes to homebound seniors across our community.

These deliveries ensure older adults have access to non-perishable meals and essential supplies that help them stay safe, prepared, and supported. We are currently seeking volunteers to assist with delivering boxes in the month of June. Even a few hours of your time can make a real difference for a senior who relies on this support.

Summer heat can be tough, but help is available.

The Senior Cool Care Program, sponsored by Dominion Energy, provides eligible adults age 60+ with free fans or air conditioning units to help keep homes safe and comfortable during the hottest months of the year.

💜 This week, we continue our focus on Elder Abuse Awareness Month.
The first type of abuse we want to discuss is how to recognize the signs of Physical Abuse.

Physical abuse is one of the most commonly reported forms. According to the World Health Organization, about 1 in 6 adults age 60 and older experience some form of abuse in community settings each year.

If you are concerned about an older adult’s safety or well-being, you can make a report to Adult Protective Services (DARS) here:

Physical abuse may include:
• Hitting or slapping
• Shoving or pushing
• Burning or pinching
• Biting
• Misuse of medications
• Use of restraints inappropriately

These actions are never acceptable, and they are often easier to miss than we realize.

💜 June is Elder Abuse Awareness Month.
At our Senior Services, we believe every older adult deserves to feel safe, respected, heard, and supported.

Throughout the month, we will be sharing information to help our community better understand the many forms of elder abuse and the signs that someone may need help or support, including:

• Physical Abuse
• Abuse of Non-consensual Intimacy
• Emotional & Psychological Abuse
• Financial Abuse
• Neglect

Awareness begins with compassion, conversation, and looking out for one another. A simple check-in, listening ear, or willingness to speak up can make a meaningful difference in someone’s life.

As temperatures rise many homebound seniors in our community face additional challenges accessing food and essential supplies. Our Summer Emergency Meal Boxes provide non-perishable meals and emergency support items to help older adults stay safe, prepared, and nourished during potential emergencies.

We are currently looking for volunteers to help deliver these boxes throughout June. Even giving a few hours of your time can make a meaningful difference for a senior who may otherwise go without support!
