Severe weather is expected to impact our area around midnight tonight. We ask that you take extra precautions if you are on the roads driving home from a New Year’s Eve Party. The shoulders on Franklin Road (Hwy 100) are soft from the drainage project posing an additional risk. Please use caution. Flash flooding and high winds are expected. Please don’t try and cross low water fords if water is over the roadway. As usual, the storm shelter at Stony Point and other departments, throughout the county, will be open. Have a safe New Year!

***** AUGUST 2021 TRAINING CALENDAR *****

There were some issues with the August 2021 Training Calendar that was posted over the weekend. I have updated the calendar. You will see the changes/additions highlighted in yellow.

If there is a virtual class scheduled, it will be listed as ZOOM. Otherwise, it will be an in-person training at the fire department listed. We can still schedule virtual training classes. They will just need to be requested from a department in Area 4 in order to get on the calendar.

If you have any questions, just let us know! Thanks so much!

It is with a very heavy heart that we pass along the loss of Deputy Emergency Management Director John T DeMarches. John was a great man who volunteered many hours to the safety of our community in his Deputy Director role, Emergency Operation Center staff and CERT team leader. Please keep his family in your prayers.

SEVERE WEATHER UPDATE!

A fast moving system will impact our area starting as early as 3 pm and run throughout the night. Expect heavy rain and high winds with possibility of large hail and/or tornado activity. As always, the storm shelter is open at Stony Point and will remain open. On a scale of 1-10 the national weather service is rating this system a high as an 8. Please be safe and plan ahead. The weather will increase response times. Do not cross high waters over the roads. I feel like this is common sense, but there is always someone who tries. Please turn around and don’t drown.

It is with great regret that the State Fire School committee is announcing the cancellation of the 2021 Kentucky State Fire School. This is not a decision that was taken lightly by the committee, and there were a number of factors taken into consideration prior to a decision being made, primarily the safety and health of all participants.

The top goal of the school is to offer exemplary training for the firefighters of the Commonwealth and ultimately, to make our communities a safer place. The committee understands the decision to cancel will affect firefighters across the state who depend on the quality instruction received at this school to continue their education and the committee will work hard to ensure this school continues to be one of the pre-eminent training destinations in Kentucky.

The committee hopes you will once again join them when it is safe to resume this school, appreciates your understanding, and looks forward to seeing you in 2022.
