We are so proud of our SCORE participants. They wanted to help a local family have a wonderful Christmas. They asked for four angels to share their blessings with. We just want to thank them for their generosity to others. Merry Christmas everyone!

One of our SCORE graduates, Tim Madwell, found out several of our children didn’t have coats for the winter. Mr. Madewell made it possible to purchase all the coats you see here. Part of the SCORE culture is to give back to the community and we are exceptionally proud of Mr. Madewell for his gracious contribution to our community.

Congratulations to our newest returning citizen, Cory Goldsberry. Mr. Goldsberry was granted parole and due to his dedication and work while in the SCORE program, he was able to rent his very first apartment and maintain his job. Join us in recognizing Cory for his accomplishments.

50 books in 1 week!!! I just love the love 💕
Such a great way to connect incarcerated parents to their children while also promoting positive values and increasing literacy!

Stories from the Heart recorded over 50 books this week🙌👏🥰

This is a program where we partner with Simpson County
Detention Center to allow inmates to record books for their children. We send each child a package with the books and a CD of their loved one reading the books to them. We have seen so many positive things come from this program, and this week kids all over the region will be receiving these and other books to add to their collections!

If you would like to help out with this program contact us today. Information on this program and volunteering can be found on our website! www.scliteracycenter.org

Jail reports: overcrowding is a major issue throughout the Commonwealth - WNKY

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – Jails across the nation are facing a major issue, and jails in south-central Kentucky are no exception. They are housing far too many inmates. Several local jails are over capacity by 30-60%. Jail officials say overpopulation can lead to more crime inside of the jail walls as ...

Representatives from the Simpson County School System meet with news media to explain how they selected a family from the Family Resource Center to be blessed by gifts from two of our residents in SCORE. We are very proud of Donnie Kindred and Curtis Reynolds for sharing the Christmas spirit with this family.

I have not done very well with adding post/ information lately so several posts had to be shared at once!

Know that that SCORE program is still very much so active, growing, and thus far proving to be a successful solution to war on recidivism.

**Keep an out towards the end of the week/ into next week for some highlights were very excited to share with you**

Rise Program

We are so excited to kick off our new program in December!

“A Familiar Voice”
Named by one of our RISE Program Participants, is a program that will allow participants to be recorded reading a book to their child. With the help of The Paul Sawyier Public Library and The Wanda Joyce Robinson Foundation, the recording and book will then be mailed to the child.

Thank you, Ashley Hagan-Penn for the idea and information on the program you have in Simpson County.

And a huge thank you to Amy Nance Snow and Bailey Slucher for being involved and making this happen!

It’s posts like this that give us faith in what we do each day. One of our residents, Jimmy Norris, approached Jailer Vaughn with a request. He has been growing his hair for over 2 years with the desire to donate his hair to provide wigs for children with cancer. He has family who has had cancer.

Mr. Norris chose Wigs for Kids because they do not charge recipients for the wigs. Jan Williams of Head2Toe Salon agreed to come to the jail to cut his hair. Mr. Norris, who is a SCORE work participant, insisted on paying for this service through our partnership with Franklin Bank and Trust, utilizing his money that he had earned.

Mr. Norris donated 170.5 inches of hair to this worthy cause. Please join us in recognizing his contribution. It is humbling to see a man who is paying his debt to society thinking of ways to help others. We are proud of Mr. Norris and wanted to highlight his commitment.

Simpson County Literacy Center

It's been 7 months since we started Stories from the Heart. We have been blown by the way it has been received. If you would like to be involved please let us know. We are always looking for more volunteers, monetary donations, and book donations. We are currently in need of books for very small children. Board books are not permitted in the jail but we have an Amazon wishlist with more options. https://www.amazon.com/gp/registry/wishlist?ie=UTF8&ref_=bnav_wishlist_btn

Tonight began our new program “Stories from the Heart.” Volunteers from the Simpson County Literacy Center work with our residents to read books to their children. As residents increase their literacy, they are recorded reading the age appropriate book to their children. Then, the recording and the book is sent to the child so they can read along as well.
