National Correctional Officers & Employees Week 2026
May 3 – May 9

Every day, behind secure doors and out of public view,
Correctional Officers take on one of the most challenging roles in public safety.

They maintain order in unpredictable environments.
They protect others while often going unrecognized.
They carry responsibility that few truly see or understand.

This week, we take a moment to acknowledge what should be recognized year-round:
Your professionalism.
Your resilience.
Your commitment to doing the job the right way.

To all Correctional Officers:
Your work matters.
Your dedication is seen.
And it is genuinely appreciated.

Members of the Johnson County Sheriff's Office Maintenance team visited the memorial for Reserve Deputy Tracy Miles, where they provided meticulous upkeep and installed a new campaign hat. Reserve Deputy Miles was fatally injured when struck by a camper van while speaking with a driver on Interstate 65, north of Whiteland exit. At the time, Deputy Miles was on patrol, had stopped to place a notice on an abandoned vehicle, and was assisting the driver when the incident occurred. Despite the severity of the impact, which threw him 126 feet, Deputy Miles managed to push the driver to safety, saving his life at the cost of his own. With 15 years of dedicated service, Deputy Miles was a devoted member of the Johnson County Sheriff's Office. He is survived by his family, including his wife, son, father, brothers, nieces, and nephews. He was 40 years old, with a badge number of 41-126.
